I the fact that political issues, which once separated the Repnh
lienn and Democratic parties are rapidly disappearing.
Not so very long ago, the Democratic party was the party of
state's rights and the Republican party was the party of federal
centralization.
But in his address lust Saturday, President Coolidge came out
to assert their authority and vigorously resist the tendency to con
strongly against federal centralization and urged the various states
ceutrate the litw-muking and lew-enforcement power in the federal
government at Washington.
It was also only a few years ago that the Republican party was
the party of imperialism and according to its opponents the party of
extravagance, which imperialism involved.
Hut today a Republican President is fighting the Democratic
program of greater participation in foreign affairs and is leading a
vigorous campaign for economy und retrenchment, at home.
AVitli unerring political principles in which n majority of the
. merit-nil people believe and today occupies even a stronger strate
gic position than he did at the time of his election.
, Unless there is a decided and unexpected change in the political
situation, the only issues left for the Democrats three years hence
will be the negative issues of anti-Republicanism, the slight crumbs
of comfort always allowed the "Outs" for their struggle with the
Ins."

I notice a certain number of readers
write from time to time (and it makes
me tearing mad), that you give people
advice about all kinds of disease so I
thought I would drop you a few lines

then follows n har

I am feeling: pretty
mad and I just
carelessly permit the

to close the incident
or else I toll 'em on the wholesale
plan that my best advice to people who
are "handled" like thnt is that thoy
consult a physician. Then somebody
olee gets mad! That's why I haven't
been so-liberal with this advice lately.
I found it was driving a considerable
number of its recipients into; anony
mity, nnd goodness knows the chucker
is- worked to capacity without over
loading it with such twaddle. '

1 nerwetter! I do not like this job of mine I'm built for
something better. You see mo here at dinky jobs, at brewing
and at bakings, and I've an 'intellect that, throbs for mighty
undertakings. One day you see me sawing wood, the next I'm
hoeing pumpkins. I try out all tho jobs in sight, my spirit
nothing daunting, but none of them appears just right, there's
always something wanting. Men 'say I am not worth two bits,
I'm lazy ami unwilling but when I find tho job that fits, you'll
wee me make a killing." He teetered round from chore to
chore, and when his years were fifty, he journeyed to the poor
houso door, in raiment far from nifty. Whatever job he had to
do ho viewed with scorn and loathing; ho wisllcd to join the
lordly few who work in tailored clothing; he would be captain
of tlft hosts, a man of Wfty station, so digging holes for cedar
posts stirred up his indignation. He'd supervise a diamond
mme, or gild a sot of lilies, but packing sill to shrieking swine
gave him the welt known willies. "Aet well your part," the
poet writes, and if your part be humble, still net it well, oh,
weary wights, nnd do not beef or grumble. AVc all admire the
geut who sings white doing jobs unpleasant, and if he's built for
better things those thills will findim present. But fortune,

rewards she grandly strews ihe doesn't like h?s lyiwling.
