Mr. Olfion, who In 31! years gld and resides nt the ltlversidc aportniontH, had just put a batch of clothing In the machinery wa.sher, which wuh partly filled with gasoline, and 'Started up the motor when a spui'k ignited the Kaollne and the washer blew up, scnttering the burn ing gasoline throughout the room, terribly burning Olson's forearms and hands, his face and ankles. The room of oourtte was set on fire in a number of places. The explosion blew the door of tho room shut, and the injured man with presence of mind lay down on the floor to escape the rising fumes nnd managed to crawl to the door, arise and open it and make his way outside to roll on the grass, where people living nearby found him. Olson was TUHhed to tho Community hospital in Ik car by Earl York, a neighbor ' Tho fire department was summoned quickly after tho explosion ami flro, but on arriving found the frame structure practically ruined, with Its roof and Interior badly burned by the flnm.ea,. The totnl loss, outside of the cloth ing ruined by the washer blowing up. nnd tho flro. Mr. Olson had started his Medford Cleaners business several months ago and hud developed It Into a successful business enture in (he tare of a num ber of discouragements, und only yes terday had taken in (. This fire, It Iff thought,' originated thru spontane ous combustion in a ground floor Closet of the one slory frAme building Among a pile of oil rags. The fire had burned up thru tin -closet to tho roof and also set flro ti the room ndjolulng the closet, and haJ destroyed a large portion of tin roof and badly scorched the ronm, before tho firemen arrived and extin guished It. Tho hero of this fire was the pel clog of Dr. and Mrs. K. O. Thayer, next door neighbors, who by his imi tated, barking aroused from tdcep Im owners, who thereupon quickly sum moned the fire department. ' (II.) How to mix. The barium carbonate nuisi be thoroughly mixed with the halt, so that the rats cannot eat the smallest portion of the bait without getting some of the barium carbonate. In the case of such sub stances as Hamburg steak. cheese, etc.. use one part of barium carbon ate to -I pans of bait. Mix thoroughly with a spoon. Substances which cannot be thoroly inixed with the barium carbonate as .Hist described ( for example, canta loupes, tomatoes, etc. should be cut into small pieces and thoroughly cov "icd with the barium carbonate, and the.n worked with a knife. (III.) How lo set poison. The three kinds of bait, prepared as above should ho divided Into small portions, ibout a tiaspoonful each, ami placed freely about pivit.iscs, alternating halts I, '2, 3. It should be set at short intervals, not over ten or fifteen feet. Do not mix the different kinds of bait with each other. 1 1 V.) (leneral Instructions. The norning after baiting, look for dead 'ats and remove them. Take up halts. Kxamlne these to see which have attracted most rats, ir any kind f halt hits noi been touched, use a different bait Instead of this. Fresh aatt should he used each night. (V.) How often to bait. Bait every night, as long as rats continue to eat halt. (I.) Caution. Keep fowls, dogs, eats, etc., away from halt. Antidote An emetic, followed by lluchello or F.isorn Salts. .
