days this weekisiting her daughters
in Meriford. Mr. Aaron Andrews was
a delegate to Presbytery, which con-

ill with flu is reported better. Mr. and
Mrs. Miller are at the home of their
daughter, Mrs. J. 13. Gowland in Bell-

earlier evening was occupied with the
routine of business, prefaced by the
beautiful ritual used in opening the
se.ssion. Much of Importance was dis
patched, reports were read from sec
retary and from commit tees and a
r.nber of bill allow c.t. At the close
of the business sessison, the remainder
of the evening was given over to the
report of tho delfate to the state
conference, Mrs. Grace K. Andrews,
who told in detail, the proceedings of
the assembly of three days, with its
interesting reports, from national,
state and chapter chairmen: its splen
did addresses and the special social
features that gave variety and enter
tainment to a conference filled to
overflowing with tho work of the or
ganization. The delenates In attend
ance will long remember tho visit to
Astoria, historic town, that gave so
splendidly of its hospitality to the
stranger within the gales. At the
close of the report the hostesses serv
ed delicious cake and chocolate.
Kuests lingered in pleasant visit until
a late hour In this hospitable home.
The sixteen! hof April was the birth
day of Mrs. Sarah Walker, and some
of her friends finding it out, di-cided
to surprise her, so sixteen of her close
friends met at the home of Mrs. Jose
phine Poley and from there proceeded
to take her by storm. Not an Inkling
of the affair had reached Mrs. Walker
and she surely was surprised. Tlij
juuests had planned the refreshments
Kifis. too. Indicative of the Jove and
esteem in which Airs. Walker is held.
A delightful evening was spent with
the hostess, at the close of which the
visitors served delicious ice cream and
cake, before saying good night and
many happy returns to Mrs. Walker.
Mrs. 11. C. Galey and Miss Mary
Geley left Saturday for Curvallis,
where Miss Mary Galey is one of the
team In the typing contest. The oth
ers going drove up, hut owing to Miss
Mary's recent illness, tho trip was
made by train.
Little Helen and Itonnle Jean Uriggs
of Gresham streot. are suffering from
whooping cough now.
