It seemed as if the last word in poison gasses had been perfected
long since, but now it appears likely that the cheery custom of
keeping government scientists at work in this realm of research
will continue in all lands. The announcement of the discovery of
such a horror in one country inspires other countries to do just a
little better or worse and the idiotic rivalry goes on.

forest land needing replanting.

wrong on all three counts. They are
always wrong, of course. But where
is th? little Jjunny while all this is go
ing on the little rabbit who essayed
tho role of friend husband, the brave
youth who promised something about
clinging to his wife and pitching ev
erybody else to a warmer climate if
need be? Even if a husband hasn't
enough tenderness toward his wife to
prompt htm to protect her from the
lawless in laws, he should at least
have enough gumption and self re
spect to resent that Boft of interfer
ence in his homo life.
There is a way to be tho best of
friends with the in laws If they are
not hopelessly ignorant or narrow
and, yet make them understand quite
clearly that they're gonna get the gate
In a hurry the moment they attempt
to overstep the boundary of friend
ship. Home times the best medicine
one can administer to an in law who
is careless about that is banishment
from the household.. She'll come back
in good time and he a more livable
sort when she has had a good think
for (herse.lf. I sy she, though quite
as often the lawless in law is a he.
This may seem a little outside of
my province, more in the pastor's line
perhaps, but as a matter of fact the
behavior of these in laws has an im
portant hearing on the health of a
family, and besides, I'm afraid the
pastor won't speak out plainly enough.
In the halcyon days when travel
was a luxury of the well to do, a lot
of young people solved the in law
problem by simply moving a few hun
dred miles away to live. Henry Ford
spoiled that, and somebody should
now establish a short course in the
amenities dr propinquity or get out
some neat little volumes of hints tQ the
in laws which bride and groom might
present to the prospective respective
in lawn.
