Clippings are enclosed which prove that at least one daily news paper in Southern Oregon complied with this request, presenting as lis justification the following gem of logic: "If tho publication of this letter will relievo tho suncrstltinus fear of anyone, and will do away with misfortune, it Is gladly published." In precisely what way such publication will relieve anyone's su perstitious fear, 'or do away with misfortune, the newspaper in ipiesjion does not explain. Obviously such publication merely adds fuel to the flames of su perstitious fear and gives credence to what is plainly a hoax, de signed either to titillate the morbid sensibilities of some practical joker, or encourage the crazy delusions of some mentally deficient crunk. There is enough ignorance and superstition and stupid fear in the world today, without encouragement from the daily press. Editorial acipiiesence on the ground "it can do no harm and may do' good" is simply a confession either of soft headed weakness or of the possession of that superstitious fear, which the publication pretends to deplore.
