PARIS, April 14. By the Asso
ciated Presa) M. Briand, who yes
terday was entrusted with the task
of organizing a new cabinet, called
on President Doumergue today and
asked for more time in which to
select his ministers. The crisis was
brought on by the resignation of the
Herriot cabinet after the senate had
expressed dissatisfaction with the
government's fiscal regime. Briand
appeared determined to have no
power behind the throne and wants
to kno wdefinltety whether .the so-
cialists are willing to bind them
selves to his leadership, reversing
the previous decision of the party
never to take office in a bourgeoise
cabinet.
By tomorrow night, it is expected
the national committee of the so
cialist party will have niado up its
nun a.
Many senators and deputies of all
parties maintain that political ques
tlons should, at least for the moment,
be laid aside that the country is in
a tragic position which must bo met
by the employment of exceptional
measures. For this reason a transt
f.in ministry headed by Anatole De-
Monzic, who became minister of fl
nance in tho Herriot cabinet sue
ceeding M. Clemen tel, on a week
before the cabinet resigned, is grow
ing in favor In polltclal circles.
The solo aim of such a ministry,
it Is explained, would be to regu
larize the position of the Bank of
franco, which it became known dur
ing the financial debates last week,
exceeded the legal limit of circula
tion to tide over a critical period.
At noon the impression in parlia-
, mentary circles, was that M. Briand
would decline the offer of the pre
miership either this evening or tomorrow.

men believed to be Floyd Hall and
J oo Ta n k o, escaped m u rdercrs from
Kan Quentin, state prison, held up Nets
Peterson, while he was driving home
in Santa Bosa last night bound and
gaged him and then carried him in
' the car along a crowded highway to
Novato, 26 miles south of Santa Rosa,
where they tied him to a tree. They
then drove off in the machine.
The bandits robbed Poterson of
everything but his knife. He man
aged to work this out of his pocket
and cut his thongs with it. He then
walked to Pctaluma, ten miles distant,
where he notified the police. Ono of j
the men' had a pistol. Peterson said. j
Sheriff J. J. Keating of this county
was notified and rushed to Pctaluma ,
with a posse. New posses wore formed
in Petaltima.
"WASHINGTON, April 14. Naval
seaplanes of a newly developed long
distance scouting typo will bo tested
by the navy department this summer
in a non-stop flight from California
to Hawaii, the longest sustained
flight ever attempted over water by
heavier than uir craft. Naval surface
craft, however, probably will bo sta
tioned over the more than 2000 mile
space of water to serve as protection
for tho fliers.
Arrangements for tho flight are
now being worked out with indica
tions that it will be undertaken late
in June or early in July.
Kither San Diego or San Francisco
will be tho take-off point with Hono
lulu as tho objective.
The test will follow tho fleet and
aircraft maneuvers in the vicinity of
Hawaii, of the next few weeks and
will proceed as the navy is under
taking another experiment with the
aircraft tho exploration of unknown
Arctic regions in co-operation with
tho MacMillnn expedition.
If the new planes fulfill expecta
tions tho flight to Hawaii will mark
an Important stop In tho development
of tho future depenso plans. De
signed to operate from a land base,
patrol aircraft of such cruising radius
ft Is pointod out, could be utilized for
extensive scouting about the Panama
canal, through tho Caribbean, as well
as off the Atlantic coast and Hawaii.

NEWPORT, R. I., April 14. Al
though It became known last night
that Mrs. Jcsso Margaret Budlong
had Saturday filed a suit seeking
separate maintenance from hor hus
band, Milton J. Budlong, tho couple
spent tho afternoon and much of the
evening together In New Port. They
would make no statement of their
plans.
Mrs. Budlong, who last February
lost her suit for divorce and was de
nlo dcustody of tho two boys, arrived
in Newport Saturday afternoon. Just
beforo the office of the clerk of courts
was closed she quietly filed tho new
petition. Sunday morning she went
alono from the boarding house at
which sho was staying to tho Easter
services at Trinity church where one
of her sons sings in the choir. Her
husband and the other son came in
later and were seated In another pew.
In the afternoon Mr. Budlong and
tho older boy drove to the home of
Mrs. Budlong. The boy went in and
after a few minutes was followed by
the father, carrying two boxes of flow
ers. A little later Mrs. Budlong came
out with thorn, carrying a small suit
case. They drove about Newport.
The Budlongs were married 25
years ago. Following the loss of her
suit for divorce. Mrs. Budlong locked
herself in a room of her husband's
apartment In New York and remain
ed for eight days, without food.
Sho left on February 21 in Bud
long's automobile and has been In
retirement since.

of the Russian orthodox church sinco

placed under the concrete floor of

was banished in 1922 by tho civil
