River division In a scheduled game of

was featured by a spectacular catch

ation of homesteaders In the Tule
lake section us well as the optimism
of the settlers In the Merrill and
Mnlln units of the Klamath irrigation
project, Secretary of the Interior Hu
bert Work returned to Klamath Falls
last night from an extensive automo
bile tour of the southern part of the
county. He was accompanied on his
trip by Reclamation Commissioner
Elwood .Mead and W. A. Uelzell. sec
retary to (iovernor Walter M. "Pierce.
This morning the secretary is hold
ing conferences with reclamation of
ficials over the problems which affect
the reclamation projects in this part
tho state.
Tho party was scheduled to leave
at lo:4 5 this morning for Kin math
agency where the secretary and re
clamation Commissioner will be guests
of Superintendent Fred A. Raker of
the Klamath Indian reservation nt
lunch.
Most of the afternoon will be de
voted to on inspection of the agency
and other points cf interest about the
reservation. A colorful feuturo of
the afternoon program is a scheduled
conference between iIr. Work and
Lhe tribal council of ths Klamath In
dians. This will probably be held
under tho shade of .he stately pines
of Klamath agency.
Tho visit of the cabinet officer and
his aides will be brought to an offl

public banquet. Although Secretary
Work and Air, Mead are booked to'
make the only talks at the banquet,
both officials have expressed a desire
to listen to whatever complaints set
tlers and water users might wish to
make, and the formal program
planned by the chamber of commerce

round-table discussion of irrigation
problems In the Klamath district.

SALEM, Ore., April l,0.r-For. the
second time the Marlon county grand
jury today returned an indictment
against Clarence W. Thompson, for
mer teller In the state treasury. The
new indictment charges larceny of
$3000 of public funds. The Jury was
convened today in special session,
Thompson and employes from the
state treasury appearing.
For the first time sipce his arrest
nearly two months ago, Thompson
was lodged In jail late yesterday und
Is still In the custody of the sheriff
at the county prison. Thompson's
second arrest wos Wednesday even
ing, following the uncovering of an
additional (3000 of the $roo0 he is
si id to have diverted to his own use.
After his aircst Wednesday evening
he was taken to a hospital In a ner
vous condition and his removal to the
prison lust night followed examina
tion by a physician who found his
physical condition not seilous.
Thompson was teller in the state
treasurer's office under State Treas
urers Hoff und Myers and his defal
cations took place over a period of
three years under those administra
tions, it is alleged.
As far us could be learned today
Thompson is now without an attor
ney, John H. McNary who represent
ed him during his first investigation,
has dropped the case.
