Mrs. .Miriam Fer guson today won the first step in th0 court fight to have her disqualified as democratic nominee for governor of Texas. The court held that Mrs. Ferguson Is qualified in every way to hold the office and that the so called common law disability against women In of fice does not apply. He held with Mrs. Ferguson on all law points. Ho said first that tho plaintiff had power to bring the suit under tho statutes and that court had jurisdiction but on all other questions, Mrs. Ferguson won. Tho old common law principles on which tho plaintiff, Charles M. Stoddard, former well known citizen of Medford, who was in charge of the early electrical plants of the valley. During his years of residence here he was prominent In tho civic affairs of the city and vicinity. Mr. Sloddnrd died at Los Angeles, Sept. IS, at the nge of 52 years, 10 months and two days, nnd the funeral was held from the home of his mother, Mrs. C. N. Stoddard at. Los Angeles, The burial was at Villsca, la., last Wednesday. He died the samo night that his sister Alice, who died in a hospital at Omaha, was hurled. Having located bore about 1907 Mr Stoddard was for years the general superintendent for Colonel Flunk 11 Ray, the pioneer In electrical power development In the valley, and as such laid tho foundation of the local Copco system; having supervised tlto build lug of power plants at Gold Uay and Prospect. Colonol Uay sold out his holding to tho California Oregon Power company In 1012, and Mr. Stoddard left Medford about 1916, since which time he had lived In San Francisco and other California cities.
