The Egyptian Ulemaa ( Mohammedan wise man ) hare issued a manifesto to the Moslem world, says the Morning Pom 'ft Cairo correspondent, declaring the deposi tion of the caliph at Constantinople an Illegal act by persons who have no voice fn the matter and urging the Moslems to hasten the assembly of a congress to settle the question of the caliphate. It was learned. The I'lemas affirm that the exis tence of the caliphate Is as necessary to every true believer as Is reason to man In general. They beg the Moslems to defend the caliphate and see that the settlement of the question does not weaken the prestige of Islam but also warn the faithful against taking any action before the meeting of th4 proposed congress. The Dolly Telegraph has received a dispatch from Jerusalem declaring It Is said that the Arabs of Palestine and Syria will join In the proclamation of King Hussein of the Hedjaz as caliph In the next few days and that great celebrations are being prepared. A conference of the Arab states will open at Kowait on March 15 when it la likely Hussein will be formally pro claimed caliph of the Moslems of the whole Arabian peninsula. Announcement of the basketball game was announced at the end of each period and when the final scoro was made known the entire audience broke forth into loud cheers for the victorious local "High" boys. The Legion circus will continue to night, then lay off over Sunday and again resume activities. The pleasing program consisted of Senior Rlvas in a Juguling act in which he Juggled everything from a match to a human being, then came Rue, the celebrated monkey acrobat, doing "monkey shines" away up high in the ofr. then camo the Fitzgeralds, with a clever balancing act on chairs and ta bles. Next on the program was Mar- gareta, the lady Juggler, followed by Senor Rivas and company. This num ber was a hair raiser, with one per former on top of the ladder, held and balanced by the other, when suddenly the ladder comes apart, leaving one performer, perched high in the air on oart of the ladder, then came Cue and Laura with their comedy contortion act. twisting into every possible shape as If made of a piece of rubber. E. Callen. all employes of tho California Oregon Power company. The party was brought Into Med ford by the cars of Robert Strang and A. T. Hill, who were close behind them also returning from the game. The car Is a new one and covered by Insurance. John Billings left to bring it back to Medford this morn ing. , Xo one was seriously Injured, though all suffered cuts from the fly ing glass and were severely bruised and shaken Kussell Sherwood suf fered an Injured ankle. Jeremiah SI : Dr. A. W. Deane, formerly of Med ford. sustained a double loss recently when Mrs. Dean passed away in Eu gene, Ore., February 10. and his niece, Mrs. "W. W. Usaher, passed away at Santa SI on ice. Cat., February 27. Mrs, Deane was formerly Madame Hood, who conducted a beauty shop in the Jackson County Bank building-. She was the mother of Glen Rood, who is a member of the local B. P. O. E.. and Vern Rood, both of Ocean Park. Cal., and Mrs. Luclle Drury, formerly Mrs. Hal Conrad, of this city, who now i resides at Sebastopol. Cal. Mrs. I Deane's death was due to appoplexy and was a severe shock to her many I friends and family. The interment was made at Santa Monica, Cal.. where Dr. Deane expected to remain with hi niece. Mrs. Ussher. Shortly after his arrival Mrs. Ussh er suddenly .passed away without an hour's warninur. Mr- and Mrs. Ussher lived in Medford for several years and afterward at Ashland. She was a sister of Mrs. Martha Spooner of I this city. Besides her husband she leaves onq daughter, Lorraine, who is a student at the University of Southern California.
