S. O. S. call was sent to Aubrey G.
Smith, chancellor commander of the
local K. of P. lodge who finally
squared matters with the police.
The new Ashland lodge was Insti
tuted last niuht with 29 new members
of the order from that city, which
membership will be much Increased
by a numlier of members of the Med
ford lodge -who reside in Ashland,
transferring their membership to the
new lodge In their home town.
The new lodge also elected officers
last night, who were installed.

The annual mcetinpr of the Stan
ford club of southern Oregon will be
hold ut the Medford hotel on Satur
day evening, March 8. 11)24. This
meeting is In honor of Founders' day,
which falls on Sunday, March 9.
Dinner will be served In the private
banquet room at C:30 o'clock p. m.

pathy orchestra struck up the "Re
turn of Mundy Lee, prior to the
election of officers at the opening of
the lodge session with nn extra large
membership in attendance last night,

ing good entertainment afterwards.

are getting financially wise as the
lodge grows older, and that is why
they elected as their new head a bank
cashier and reformed nigger minstrel.
One Vernon Haymaker Vawter is
the newly elected exalted ruler, and
under his regime and with the coop
eration of the other nble newly elected
officers the local B. 1. O. K. men look
for one of the most successful years
in the lodge's history.
Mr. See ley Victory Hall was chosen
as the esteemed leading knight, and
Mr. Abe liitters Cunningham, the only
bald-headed Jew to hold that office in
Pacific coast Klkdom, was elected
esteemed loyal knight.
Then just to show their broad
mindedness the Elks elected Mr. John
Wesley Judy, the oldest and most con
spicuous son-in-law of his wife's fath
er, as esteemed lecturing knight.

head the lodge took n long chance and
elected Mr. Lawrence Candler Mann
as treasurer.
Mr. Iee Lucifer Jacobs who has
held this office ever since his return

silence and aloofness was re-elected

trustee for three years.
The new exalted ruler will make the
appointments of esquire, chaplain and

The few acts of the indoor circus
given during the entertainment pro

Mr. Louis t'lrich, present exalted
ruler, was elected as representative to
the next Elks grand lodge convention,
and Mr. E. E. Kelly was elected as
alternate delegate.

did not recall tho meaning of some of
