COOUDGE The Cirl R-erv-. according to their program, attended ervues i a lody Sunday morning at the First Baptist church, a full section of pews was reserved for them. As the large and representative body of Medford girls entered the auditorium they sang j their official aong. the audience ; standing while they mere being seated. t Much appreciation was expressed of the practical rmon especially de ( livered for them by Rev. F. R. Leach, pastor of the church. The choir had some splendid music. 1 flev. Mr. Leach' spoke On "What Our Oirls Should Is." How the ideals of the Girl Reserves helps bicIb to meet the temptation of their sex, and to solve the.r problems was mentioned in the speaker's introduction. The girl of today, said the speaker, lives in a different world from the girl of yesterday; she touches life in all Us phases: In In the world of business, and is under greater strain and temp tations: she belongs to more organi sations; attends more dances; takes more Joy ride3, and smokes more cig arette and drinks more booze, if she happens to belong to the ao-called smart set. ( The girl of today has greater ad vantages tha nthe g:rl of yesterday; 1 is more educated; knows more of life,: but for all thin is she a better girl; is she making a better wife and mother; is rhe better morally, physically and spiritually? The wold is In need today of the old-fashioned girl; the girl who thinks more of .shining in the home than in society; who is interested in some thing aside from the latest dance and inzx music or novel; who snaps her fingers at wrong and false standards and vulgar fashion; w ho is sweet, high minded, a lover of home and church. and one who can say her prayers and is not afraid of standing alone, if need be. What should our girls be? They should be attractive and beautiful. There U beauty of form. There la a power for good, if the girl tan be beautiful and not self conscious of it. When she is then she loses the charm of real teauty. lu-auty does not come from uso of cosmetitu; paint and powder detract rather than at tract. Beauty of dress i also desir able, but should not be the only thought of the girl. The average gi" 1 of today gives too much time and thought to her dress, and thinks more of what she has on her head .than what she has in it. Beauty of mind Is al.no essectial. It serves to make the face attractive where a lack of education Interferes with one's power for good. Beauty of manners should aI?o be considered by girls. Coarse, vulgar manners are un becoming Jn a girl. Above all beauty of character should be placed fore most. For without character a girl ia a drug on the market. No giil is really beautiful who has an Impure heart. Beauty of soul i essential to perfect womanhood. Our girls should ' be serviceable. The s'rl of today la not as useful in the home as she once was. Every girl should have some home duties and not feel she is above work. She should know the art of conking, and be a home maker above all things. Our girls should be practical; physi cally strong: and thu woll equipped to exert the great power women have on the other sex. and on the genera tion of tomorrow. . The world will give place to this girl who can mnke cfood, but to make good she must t,e good. God pity the girl, who only ha. ; beauty of face and dress, and has no J beauty of character, mind or ul LEADER, L. MOSS While no official announcement has yet been made here or by the O. A.
