Very nice! AVe also learn from the same souree, that Mr. MeAiloo will cham pion the cause of the common people, while his opponent will cham pion the cause of the priveletreil rich. Also very nice, anil very simple. With all the virtue on one siile ami all the evil on the other, a MeAdoo victory should he as easy, as reading; the Sermon on the Mount. Just why President Coolidfie should be east for the role of the Kvil One, and just why Mr. MeAdoo should be selected as the stand ard bearer of the poor and oppressed, Mr. Rockwell does Jiot make so dear. As far as most people have been able to determine, President foolidge's only connection with the Teapot Dome scandal has been to call for criminal prosecutions. He has never been private counsel for Mr. Doheny, never has received .Kl.OilO nor been promised a fee of ijdHXI.OOO. As for the priveleged rich, President Coolidge is un doubtedly the poorest man to enter the White House since Abraham Lincoln, and nothing in his record past or present, indicates even a pcaking acquaintance wirti the class, whose cause he is now accused of championing. , j Mr. Cochran should be more explicit. If the coming campaign is to be merely a Morality play, between a Democratic St. George and a Republican dragon, the people would like to know it. It would save a great deal of needless worn' and investigation between now and our next July 4th celebration. QUILL Some" kinds of music may serve music!. In our gardens there were roses till tha Christmas time was past, and the people's ears aiid noses suffered in no arctic blast. We had soaked our heavy raiment, soaked thj fur and furbelow, and we wondered what the jay meant who predicted lots of snow. Hut the weather man grew rattled as the New Year made its bow, and the (dements embattled raised a most unholy row. All the stand ard goods were chosen from the Arctic's stock of storms, and our lambrequins were frozen, ami we clamored for reforms. For we'd ( soaked our winter clothing in the time of balmy airs, and we viewed with bitter loathing weather fit for polar bears. Oh, the winter is a hummer, and we gurgle as we go, in our rags designed for summer, through the tempest ami the snow. From forbidding polar reaches comes the tempest grim and stark and our duds were made! for beaches, ami for picnics in the park. So we roast, for goodly reasons, such an elemental crime; better far to have our seasons come along on schedule time. Such a mixed up stunt dis closes only trouble, only woe; we're opposed to winter roses, we are down on summer snow. There is an atom of truth in that, combined with several atoms of something els. The truth is that the layman had bet ter "lay ofa" tho study vt di.eaj" and symptoms and remedies. But I have yet to meet the layman who has been harmed by a study of the way.s of health. The trou ble with the folk who imagine it U bad for the layman to read health stuff is that they do not understand what health is they confuse it with liver complaint and the like. I defy anybody to read the maga zine called llygeia and et anything but clean, ...wholesome and cheerin:; entertainment and instruction out of it. A man may keep at work and jolly hfm:ff along for a considerable time after a trace of albumin and a few casts have appeared, but it would be a great deal beitervfor his efficiency and longevity if his doctor knew the man had nephritis or was headed that way. Jut how much it might be worth to the man, to let his doctor know about the condition and guide him accordingly, is problematic, but in view of the fact that chronic nephritis has a way of developing insidiously and not alarming the victim seriously about his health at first. I think it would be worth three dollars a year to any man or woman p;i.st 30 to know that no albumin or -asts were present. 1,'rianalyais is an eientia part of the periodic health examination of anybody past the age of 30 yars, but it is a matter of in dividual judgment for the physician to' decide what tests fire "necessary under this head. As a iule a micro scopical test is necessary only when albumin is present, unless other ab normal findings In the examination in dicate the need of a microscopical test. Recalling what I said in the last talk about health a.u ranee -that 1 have not tried the medicine myself I would formulate the rule that after 30 everybody who.e health is not the very best it has ' ever been certainly needs at least an annual physical ex amination. And from 30 to 50 a man or woman should not only be well, but should enjoy health iun. Ijemons lo N'o Harm My 7 year old girl likes to suck lemons. Wll they do her any harm? A neighbor warns me . . . Mrs. A. W.) Answer. Xo harm; on the contrary they're rather healthful, being a good source of vitamins and tending to op pose acidosis and maintain a normal alkilinity of the system. I'm trying to sweeten up lemons a little because the neighbors are too severe on them. But I must add a dash of bitter, by saying that lemon juice internally or externally, whether you have your fingers crossed or not, will never re duce anybody or any part of anybody. To be sure, one would have a hard time getting fat on a diet of lemons, but nevertheless even half a lemon him some food value and you can't reduce by taking fond. The Sick Friend I would like to ask your advice about locating cancer with an X-ray. A friend of mine in the forties has felt a soreness in one breast for about ten years. I was then 44 years old and much worked up over the socalled change of life as I heard older women discuss it. Now I am 49 and have passed thru the fancied ordeal without a moment of anxiety or any disturbance of health, all due to your common sense instruc tion and explanation of it allwKich set my mind at rest. But a great many of your sex prefer to imagine there is a "change" of life and that it really is a "crisis" and that all sorts of ill health may be attributed to it. for I must keep one illusion even if I do not know you are not a male angel. 9.
