EIGHT' MEDFOttfl MATTJ TftTBTTyE, frfET)POftD, O'REGONf, FRTDAY, FEBRUARY 22, 1024 J A return match between Sara Clap ham, English light-heavyweight cham pion, and Gus Schneidau of Medtord has at last been secured by southern Oregon promoters and fans here will pee the Medford grappler attempt to prove his contention that he can toss the English boy. This match will be held. next Wednesday evening in Gold Hill at Martin Dowers pavillion, and It should attract a number of fans, not only from Medford, Ashland and Gold' Hill but Grants Pass as well. A well balanced card has been slated for Wed nesday's smoker which will feature both boxing and wrestling. It seems that when Gus lost his match a few weeks ago with Sam Clap bam be was not In condition and ho claims that under usual conditions he can throw the husky Sammy. The match at Gold Hill wilt afford Gus his opportunity of showing the people that ho was not in shape when he last met Clapham. Gus Is buckling down to real practice and road work so that he 'will be In tip top condition for Wed nesday's fray. ; As s seml-wlndup, Chauncey Hooker of Medford and nay lleuger of Ashland will entertain with a six 3 minute round, fight. At the smoker here Tuesday night lleuger k. o'd the Med ford boy and the return engagement promises to bo mighty interesting, neuger proved hlmsolf to he a good scrapper and Chauncey will have to BO some to win Wednesdny evening. As a curtain raiser "Shorty" Con-1 rad will wrostlo "Frenchy" of Gold Hill. "Shorty" has a formidable nn-i tagonlst in the Gold Hill boy who has bad the advantage of lots of Ralph Hand's pointers. "Frenchy" has the makings of a clever wrestler and will be sure to make "Shorty" work hard. JACKSON CO. BOY'S F L When yesterday afternoon C. C Cat uHkcd A. C. Allen if he and one or two other relatives of Aubrey Furry, the Jackson county baritone singer, who won to sing last night in the concert broudcasted from the Portland Orcgonian office in Portland could come to the Allen home and listen to it over the fine radio set there, ready acquiescence was given, and Mr. Allen thought nothing more of the matter. The Allen family, however, slicked up a bit and Jim Allen about the time the two or three guests were expected to come contracted his long legs so that they could spread at ease In one room and yet not interfere with the visitors. Then without warning the guests began to come in twos, threes, fours and dozens all tho Cutes, and the I' urrya from Phoenix and other parts of tho county until when fifty had crowded In, the piling of the children on the floor to fit in the odd spaces was begun In anticipation of further arrivals. At this juncture tho Allan cat, which had been feeding on a milk diet for months hurriedly went out side to look up a bull dog. There tho crowded assemblage snt while they listened with awe as tho radio picked up snatches of concerts all over tho Pacific coast while wait ing for the Portland concert to begin. All of a sudden a sweet baritone voice was neara singing. "That b Obry." said Arthur Furry of Phoenix, familiarly known as "Dad" father of tho singer, "Sure it's Obry" chorused the others after listening n second or so. All listened In rapt attention until the song was over. Then came a most startling climax when "Dad" Furry in his eagerness and excitement, shouted Into the radio, "la it raining up there, Obry?" This version In not tho one generally aocepted, but In later years It has beon coming more and more Into promi nence. During all the years from Lin coln's death till now stories havo per sisted that' Wilkes llooth was never captured. ' When the tnlk was finished tho teachera and pupils asked questions and discUHsed the story until the as sembly which had begun at 10:30 had stretched to the noon dismissal.
