Blanche Sweet in tho title, ro lo of "Anna Christ lo" offers definito proof that a triumphant comeback can bQ staged, for it stands out as far the finest piece of work she has done since she returned to the screen from a two-year retirement. George Marion a performance ot Chris" in tho Inco picture is an even greator .achievement than his work in the same rolo which ho creatod for the stage drama. William Itussell as Mutt Burke, the Irish stoker sweet heart of "Anna," completes as fine a trio as tho most discriminating critic could desire. The lover of beauty will thoroly ap preciate the colorful flashes of the Shanghai water front with Its motley life, its Idling sampans and clumsy junks. Lwiughtor and tears, tho sordid and tho beautiful have been artistic ally mingled. OF TO ENLARGE LOBBY IEI The main event of tho hoxlng smoker at the Medford Gym last night between Johnny Carlson and Jimmy Walsh of Portland,, was V fizzle, but the remainder ot the card, mado up for the final fluke. Walsh lasted half of the first round, and was not match for Carlson what ever. His powers of resistance were nil, and he reclined on tho canvas twice before ha stayed for koops. The first tumble was not very artistic, and the crowd yelled for him to get up. He did. Tho batflo was too hot, and tho Bocond time ,-hamwent down, tho crowd left, and the referoe counted Walsh out. Tho best contest of the evening was botwecn Chauncoy Hooker and Kid Ruter of Ashland. Tho young mon wasted no time in fancy posing, and Hooker was floored In the first round, but managed to last out the round. Hooker came back In the second round, and mixed things, and was floored for keeps. ' The semi final between Young Ken nedy and Archie Calvert of Ashland was a slanibang. Archie had plenty of ability to take punishment, and re cuperate, and was knocked down half a dozen times before he was counted out. In the third round, he was knocked on his haunches, and Ken nedy in the heat of tho fray biffed him one on the jaw, while Archio was in a sitting posture. The referee called off the contest, while a part of the crowd yelled "foul' It was unintentional, but resulted in one of Kennedy's sec onds and a couple of tho cash cus tomer's saying mean things to each other. Four good preliminaries furnished a good measure of fun and entertain ment, and what the youthful contest ants lacked In science thoy made up with enthusiasm. A good crowd attended, and outside of the unhappy ending of the main event, It was a crackerjaok show. In preparation for tho enormous coming tourist travel, and also be causo of long needed space tho Hotel Holland will within the next day or so begin extensive improvement work on that hostelry, which will greatly en largo its lobby, and In addition nil tho rooms and halls will bo kalsomlned and redecorated, and the main sample room in tho rear of tho lobby will tyo converted Into a banquet room. This offieo will bo moved to tho rear of the building on tho Klxth street side, whoro It will occupy an offico in tho rear of that of the .Westerluml Orchards company. Tho new part of tho lobby thus creat ed will be used as a writing and read ing room for tho guests. Other Improvements will also bo tnudo, Including the re-location of ono or two samhlo roonm.
