day building the wall which is the
background and covering it profusely
with flowers, tho work of the domestic
tirt classes. -The enthusiasm of nil
conected with the operetta has never
flagged throughout the long weeks of
practice and has now readied Its

Tickets have ' been soiling rapidly
nnd will continue to bo tin sale at Crow-,
eon s until taken to Ilia Armory at
about seven. The Armory provides
more seats than have previously been
available. New wires have bean atmns:

Final decision by the county court,
whichj returned Wednesday from a
trip north, on tho paving of tho Ruch
and Medl'ord highway, is not expected
until after a representative of tho
state highway commission has looked
over the situation and rendered his
opinion. This official will make a
visit next week.
A checker has been stationed on tho
Jacksonville road for the last two days,
keeping track of the number of autoes
that pass, the result to be used as evi
dence, In the matter.
Petitions for the Eagle Point Lake
Creek road are being circulated and
aro being freely signed.
GOES TO THE JURY
Arguments in the civil suit of the
American Soda Fountain company of
Hoston, lla3!., against the Mcdford
Grocery company wcro made in the
circuit court this morning, nnd the
case which lias dragged over three
days, and hard fought throughout will
go to the jury this afternoon.
Final witnesses for botli sides, gave
testimony pro and con, on the quality,
consistency, flavor, color, and adapta
bility to climatic conditions of the
plaintiffs syrjips.
The caso hinged on the allegation
hat the syrup was not up to standard.
The Markets
Juno Eurhart, well known nurso,
while driving to her homo on tho
Pacific highway, near tho southern
Vity limits Wednesday, saw two men
standing in the road, with their hands
in the -air, and giving other distress
signals of tho autolst. Miss Earhart
slowed down and one of tho men said:
"O, it Is a woman!"
They then explained that they had
been forced to stop their car, on ac
count of engino trouble nnd pointed
to a largo car. parked on the side of
the road.
Miss Enrhnrt drove to her homo,
and watohed. further developments.
In a few moments a largo car ap
proached, and tho two men endeavor
ed to stop it with signals, but tho car
only drove, faster. A second "car ap
proached, and tho driver. , employed
the same tactics.
After tho second car . passed, the
two men entered their own and drove
south at a high rate of speed, without
any signs of tho engino trouble they
told about.
The incidents have nil tho earmarks
of an attempted hold-up.
Bishop'3 Visit Deferred.
ItiKhop Sumner, who was to havo vis
ited St. Mark's Episcopal church on
Sunday, has been prevented from keep
ing the engagement. His visit has
therefore been postponed, lie will
visit St. Mark's on Sunday, - February
24, at 7:30 p. m.
D. K. Zontos, a Creek, and Mrs. Mary
Jafrls, and Mr. and Mrs. Jack Mills.

the sheriff's office, pending action by
the department of justice for alleged
violation of the Mann Act. The quar
tet wero trailed to this city, by tho
husband of Mrs. Jafri3. Tho Mills'
wero arrested in a rooming house in
tills city, and Zonto and Mrs. Jafris
were taken into custody at Gold Hill.

According to Sheriff Terrill, the fam
ily life of the Jafris' has not been se
rene, nnd the wlfo disappeared l'roni
Los Angeles, three weeks ngo. The
husband started in pursuit, and caught
up witli them here. According to his
story, Mrs. Jafris left a five year old
girl in I-os Angeles, to flee with Zon
to. 1 1 unhand and wlfo mot again yes
terday in the county jail, and, accord
ing to the sheriff, words flew for 10
minutes in heated debate, and charges
and counter charges.
The, women qf the quartet aro held
in the women's section of the county
jail, and take their Imprisonment light
heartedly, but the men are not so gay.
