SINCE 1909 A GLOVE FACTORY, FREE SITE GIVEN It developed at tlia city council meet ing last night" that Medford Is to have a new industry in the States Glove Manufacturing company, which has just been formed and incorxrated un der the laws of Oregon from the old Denver Glove Manufacturing company of Denver, Colo., arid of which the heaviest stockholders are Dr. Frank Roberts, well known dentist, and his brother-in-law, Mr. Carpenter, and which will be removed to this city. Dr. Roberts In setting forth this In formation before the council last night asked that body on behalf of the com pany to donate a site at once for the new concern. That Is all the com pany asks from the city, tho site to revert back to the city If at any time the company ceases to operate here. A site of only 40 by SO feet was asked for, and the company plans to build a frame structure about that size with foundations which will enable the com pany, as it enlarges, to add one or more floors. . t- , . The company also plans, when the growth of the business warrants it, to establish Its own tannery In connec tion with the factory, nnd when that time comes the tannery would be es tablished in another location outside tho city. The work of erecting the one story factory building will be begun at once and tho machinery removed to this city from the former Denver plant as fast as the railroads can bring it. The new concern will only bring one family to the city with tho factory plant and during the early stages of the first year of its existence here will employ about fifteen persons. But If it sustains a normal growth, as Its own ois confidently expect, will employ many moro persons by the end of that time. Mayor Gmiilis and the councilmen wero unanimously in favor of furnish ing the new sito to the company under the conditions volunteered by Dr. Rob erts, and finally decided to give the 50x100 lot at the corner of Welch and Jackson streets as the site. This Is one of the pieces of delinquent prop erty that hits fallen to the city through unpaid assessments amounting to about $071., . ' ' . OBITUARY TAI,R:JT John Talent died at i Portland. Ore... Ore., and one son. A. P. Talent of Kalntna, Wash.; three sisters, Mrs. R. R. Oatman, Mrs. N. J. Hendrickson and Mrs. J. D. Ileeson, all of Medford; two brothers. Chas. P. Talent of Medford and J. O. Kova Hutchinson and Harold Fish, for the affirmative and John Holsgang and Eugene .Thomas for the negative debated this question heatedly amid applause and" laughter of the large number gathered to hear them. Los Angeles seemed - to be proved more amusing with more ad vantages for commerce and, education but Medford was declared more "safe and sane." The city police force, fire department, theaters, lighting system and schools were criticized and prais ed by turns and the presence of Mayor Gaddis, "Judge" Glen Taylor, H. L.
