PRE.SIDKXT COOUDGG'H actiun in demanding both civil, niul criminal proceedings in-the Teapot dome oil case, will lie heartily endorsed by the American people, regardless of party. The revelations of the past few days have been amazing. Start ing as more or less a political move, the probe of the senatorial committee, under the direction of a prominent Democratic leader was generally regarded as merely ajiother one of those familiar poli tical schemes, to stir up a little campaign material for the presidential election. While Secretary Pall was recognized as a reactionary ot the old school, practically no one suspected his honesty. While it is only fair to reserve final judgment until Mr. Full has told the whole story, nothing Mr. Fall may say can alter the con viction that he misrepresented the facts, when he formerly testified to the committee. At that time Mr. Falla absolutely denied that he, ever had received money from Mr. Sinclair, or from anyone else interested in the oil concessions. Yesterday Mr. Sinclair's private was loaned $25,000 in Liberty bonds given him for the expenses of his Russian trip. The day before Mr. Uoheny testified that he had loaned Fall $100,000, had taken his note,, but had been unable to find To secure a conviction through but with these facts established beyond reasonable doubt, it is dim- cult to see how Mr. Fall can escape moral conviction before the bar of public opinion. ' No amount of red tup or legal jugglery can alter the main facts, t,hat an official of the American government, awarded valuable con cessions to two oil companies, and within a short timo before or after this action, received from l.ho executive officers of these oil compa nies, loans aggregating $125,000. . - - There is no law against making loans, Hub loans at such it time, unsupported by securities, and made by individuals who have admit ted the concessions granted brought, tbetn millions in profits, estab lish a case against the former; secretary of the interior, which ren ders such action as President C'oolidge has taken, imperative. The bust use 1 know for a clinical thermome ter In the home care of the sick is for stirring a little cold tea for the patient. The Idea, the reason for this queer notion of mine I do seem to have a lot of queer notions Is that if anybody is complaining or actually sick It doesn't do anybody, a darn bit of good to know what the temperature may be. Kxcept under the Immediate direction of the physician the use of clinical thermometer it is not only not advan tageous but too often it is disadvantageous- in effect, because It causes needless alarm In a trivial illness or, on tho other hand. It fails to arouse sufficient anxiety In a Krave illness. So much for tukine the tempera ture without the order of the doctor. Next, naturally comes the pulse. Should the layman try to take tho pulso? Well, as a general rulo 1 should say no, not as a confirmed habit. At least not in the furtive, underhanded way the ordinary layman sets about taking it. If one really must take a pulse it is well to study tho technic of the thing to do a neat and work manlike job, whether any one is look ing or not. The first rule is to tie your thumbs up out of tho way. Thumbs have caused no ond of dis asters in attempts to take tho pulse. If you use your thumb you gt your own pulso and the victim's all balled up; tho effect would not be so dread ful if you, were going to share the treatment with your victim. I remember how morbidly I was af-' fected by the discovery that I hud no pulse in my left wrist. This followed not long after the discovery that I had no sense no special sense, you understand In my left ear. 1 began to ruminate upon the question of total loft-sided paralysis. Hut cumo a glad day when I found tho pulse in my left arm working all right at a point about two inches outside the ordinary situa tion of tho radial artery at tho wrist.
