Funds available to tho state lilghwny com mission will not permit ordering much hew work thla year as most of the money in sight has already be,en pledged for projects under way or voted upon, according to announcement to day at the tnoetlng here of the state highway commission. Many county delegations are here making requests for new road work. Tho commission today awarded two contracts. Bauors and Bauers will re surface with crushed rock 22.7 miles of the Old Oregon trail between Umatilla -and Nolin for $88,830. J. W. and J. H. Hiystrom of Marshtleld, will build bridges near Coquille for $22,255. Bids for surfacing with crushed rock 16.9 miles of the Conullle-Ban- don section of the Roosevelt highway were held, up for consideration with Coos county court. The county will pay one half of the project. The low est bidder was Pat Henncssy, Marsh field, $175,992. Commissioner H. B. Vanduzen asked questions today which brought out that the state will have some $2,700, 000 for highway purposes. But it was said that less than $300,000 will be available for new work.
