Ernest Vet ter and his wife, Marie, tpday were found guilty of first degree man slaughter for the killing of Alonzo J. Storey, a former suitor of Mrs. Vet tor. Mrs. Vetter screamed and col lapsed when the verdict was an nounced. Her husband put his arms around Iter and spoke consolingly to her. The maximum penalty that may bo Imposed on the vetters for first de gree manslaughter Is twenty years' Imprisonment. '-'Storey was a former roomer and in timate friend of Mrs. Vetter before lie married. The prosecution introduced testimony purporting to show that Stprey was invited to the Vetter home by Mrs. Vetter May 11, last, and was beaten and Btnbbed to death by the husband and wife. His body, wrap ped lii a burlap sack, was cast into Jamaica Day. The Vetters pleaded eelf-defeiuie. Chinese Bandit Who Captured Americans Is Executed By Govt. PEKING, Dec. 21. The boys of the senior class oC the highschool donated their services to asslst'the contractors In putting the roofing on the gymnasium building all day yesterday. From all appearances the gymnasium will be completed In a period of two qr perhaps throe more weeks. At present tho siding of the building Is completed, as are all the trusses of tho self-supporting room. The work has progressed very rapidly, faster than was expected, duo to tho untiring energy of the contractors to complete the gymnasium as soon as possible. It Is reported that tho local lodge of I. 0. O. F. have purchased the brick building belonging to A. C. Walker. Tho lower floor of the two story busi ness structuro is occupied by the Cen tral garage, while the upper floor Is in the form of housekeeping rooms. These rooms will be all formed Into one big hall for the meeting place of the lodge. Their quarters are In the Crowley building at present time. A wedding of, most interesting note to the residents of Central Point oc curred quite recently In Virginia City, Nevada. At the homo of tho bride's sister Wednesday evening, December 12th the wedding took place of Miss Lillian A. Dewar to Mr. Fred Farra. the bride is of a prominent pioneer family of Nevada, while the groom Is a southern Oregon young man, the son of Mr. and Mrs. E. L. Farra, residing in Central Point. . Fred Is congratulat ed upon his advent Into matrimony, by all of his friends, of whom he has a host here. Mr. Claude Sullivan left rocently for California and Is now trapping at Cnl lahans, California. Mr. Cliford Boswell left Tuesday af ternoon for San Francisco, where he will probably spend a month or more visiting relatives. ' The Central Point schools closed this afternoon for tho Christmas vaca tion of a week and one-half duration. In all the grade programs were given and gifts exchanged among the schol ers. The high school student body rgave a very entertaining program, af- I ter which "Santa Clans" dealt out gifts of Christmas cheer. The new service station is progress ing very rapidly, and very soon will be completed. When completed tho cor ner of Pine and Fourth will present a very much better appearance appear ing as a "little metropolis" with a new service station on the right side and a modern up-to-date grocery and merchandise Btore on .the left. It Is a general rumor that a third station will be'bullt directly opposite the new one, arid that work will start on it the com ing strplng. . If that Is realized as a fact it can weil be noted that Central Polt Is rapidly coming to the fore. Mr. and Mrs. Bales, accompanied with Mr. Jessup of Keyes, California, spent Saturday and Sunday In the city visiting Mr. Archie Parker. Mrs. Clark recently returned from Olympla, where she has been for the past several weeks.
