BRILLIANT AFFAIR
: Two hundred Kiwnnlang and their
Indies enjoyed the charter presenta
tion and dinner dance- at the Hotel
Hertford last night. A charter pre
sentation represents the official
christening of a Klwnnls club and the
cntertnlnment committee In charge of
Deko Barr fsnve the memhers and their
guests one of the most brilliant parties
of the season.
The charter presentation addresB,
the outstanding feature of the even
Ing, was delivered by Northwest Gov
ernor of Kiwanls S. W. Tiiwrence, of
Portland. The speaker said the rule
of Klwnnls was the Golden Iliile, and
that the understanding. .of Kiwanls,
"which tho organization endeavored to
Instill la all KIwanlanf! planted In the
minds and hearts of men a real In
tense and honest desire to build, and
to lift up and take the Belfishness out
of men.
Comparing Klwnnls to the lodge and
tho church, both of which he said ho
was a member of and fully, appreciat
ed, tho speaker stressed tho point
that Klwanhms wero bound by no fix
ed oath or obligation to any particular
membership or ritualistic,, exactions,
but through the practical application
of the Goldon Rule and a 'desire to
render constructive service, without
limits, In the community, the organi
zation built up community character
and helped to restore good will and
Rood fellowship where It was needed.

ious to render a conscientious Bervlce,

presented, the speaker bringing out
very forcibly that the privileged youth
of today In many ways presents a
more difficult problem, than the under
privileged child does, who knows from
experience how to appreciate the ad
vantages he receives. The addrexs
was concluded with an amusing and
novel comparison of man and an au
tomobile. The address was much en
Joyed, and generously applauded.
During the evening many novel fea
tures were Introduced.
1 A dress, donated by John C. Mann,
was won by Mrs. W. W. Howard and
favors were distributed to ' all the
guests. Colored balloons attached to
each chair furnished much amuse
ment. Alford's orchestra furnished its
usual highly popular mUBlc for danc
ing and accompanied the singers and
dancers on the program. Telegrams
of congratulation were read from As
toria, Albany,' Reedsport, Seattle,
Spokane, Marshfield, The Dalles, Chi
cago, Salem, Portland, Ashland, Klam
ath Falls and Yakima as well as from
the - Kiwanls Internationa) headquar
ters and various high orficloTB of the
organization. Delegates from Kiwanls
clubs in all the nearby cities were in
attendance. i ?

"The Little Minister," by llillle Fenton.
who wittily accused the local club of
locking Its doors to ministers, brought
out much merriment; A dance by the
Hillings Sisters merited the generous
applause received. ' , ,
Rev. William ,1). Hamilton was an
honored guest of the evening and said
grace before the banquet. C. K. Qatus
