plain his presence the senate refused
to recognize him and Senator Soriano,
a collectlvista, chairman of the cam

notice of his appointment had been'
received. The senate, Soriano de
clared, had been provided only with
carbon copy of the. letter of the gover
nor general appointing Alejandrino,
whereas It should have been given the

The senators thon adopted a resolu-
tlon to investigate the appointment.
After the session closed Alejandrino
I said he had furnished the secretary
of the senate with a copy of his ap
pointment accompanying It with a
communication requesting the exten
sion to him of -credentials for perfor-

LIQUOR DESTROYED
TO FLOAT A SHIP
PORTLAND, pro., Dec, 6. Enough
liquor in which to float the prover
bial ship was confiscated and destroy
ed by Portland police during the lust
year, according to a report covering
activities for the twelve months,
commencing Decomber 1, 1922.
In those twelve months thopoltce
seized 13,695 pints of whiskey, 12,141
gallons of wine 3727. quarts of beer
and 160 gallons of fermented grape
juice and cider.. In the same period
17,672 gallons' of wine and whiskey
mash also were seized and con
fiscated. - V
Violations of the liquor laws took
1563 persons to jail as boptleggerB,
moonshiners, persons caught manu
facturing, selling, transporting pr
possessing liquor. Arrestsfor drunk
enness were not included.
Use, possession and sales of nar
cotics sent 233 persons to jail.

Banker Found Guilty.

W. Ross, former deputy state finance
commissioner in charge of the liquid
ation of the defunct Night and Day
bank, pn trial in circuit court here,
was found gultty late -today of a
charge of embeejsling -$28,256 fit the
bank's funds and was sentenced to
five years in the penitentiary.

Proposals for the abolition of lual
Japanese and American nationality
and for enforcement of the anti-alien
land act passed by the diet ten years
ago but never enforced, have been
under consideration for a year, how
ever. Difficulty foreseen in government
circles In enforcing of the anti-alien
land act arises from the fact that re
structions on the ownership of land
under the act would react against
certain states of the United States
which now permit Japanese to own
land.
DRUGS AND PIPES
SEIZED IN SEATTLE
SEATTLE, Dec. 6. More than
$25,000 worth of narcotics and $5000
worth of hand carved Chinese pipes
were seized in a raid after midnight
in the Chinese section here by federal
agents, local police and one represen
tative ot the King county sheriff's
office. The raid, which was said to
be one of the lnrgest ever made in the
Chinese section was made by six men
under the leadership of Harry V. Wil
liamson, district narcotic director.
The authorities leaped from a 'third
story hotel window across an alleyway
to a fire escape outside a Chinese
social club, cut a screen and entered
the club where the agents found over
100 Chinese. . w -
After taking the prisoners to the
city jail the authorities returned to
the building, ripped up the floors and
found approxlrimtely ten pounds of
narcotics said to be valued at $15,000
