Caldwell did some mighty good kicking for Ashland, Jiryant was strong on the center smashes and long end runs, while Dix ut guard was a mainstay in the line, The "dope" on yesterday's game tolls the story of Medford's victory. The home team piled up 220 yards from scrimmage to AHhland's 113 Kight times the Medford team smash ed thru for first downs while Ashland mailo yardage six times. In the first half the Ashlanders plowed thru the Medford dfunso to within striking distance of the Medford goal and lost the ball on fumbles. This first half was nip and tuck between the two teams and Williams' field goal only gave Medford III a 3 to 0 lead shortly before the whistle blew. Aslilund Wins Toss It was twenty minutes to ono when tho tenms faced each other for the fray. Ashland won the toss and chose to defend the north goal. A Medford back caught Chapman's kick and was downed on the ten yard line. After a G yurd gain thru tuckle, Medford punted and Ashland took the ball In the middle of the field, only to return It to Medford the next minute on a fumble. After exchanging punts Willi their adversaries, tho local team bucked thru tho lino for yardage twice1, and finished their march on Ashland's 1 5 yard line where they surrendered tho ball on downs - and Ashland kicked. Medford then began tho march for the north goal but, when they tried to kick their punt wus blocked. Ashland .took the ball on their 40 yard line but again fum bled and Medford kicked to Ashland's 3 5 yard line. After a short exchange of punts, Dally took the ball to Ash laud's 80 yard lino on a fake kick and Wlfllams booted tho ball neatly be tween the posts scoring the first points of the gamo for Medford. Medford punted to the middle of tho field and Bryant, who took Moffatt's place in the Ash land backfield, bucked thru for 12 yardy. Ashland was then held for downs and Medford booted the ball to Ashland's 45 yard line when the whistle blew for the half. Medford Strong 2nd Half Medford came back strong in the second half, annoying two touch downs. Hhe started this period- by kicking off to Ashland and both teams exchanged kicks which gave Medford the ball on her adversaries' 47 yard line. Dally made a twenty- five yard buck but Medford lost 10 yards on a long end run. It was the third down with 18 yards to go when Medford kicked over the Ashland line and the Kfd and White took the ball on their 20 yard line. ' Ashland kicked and Medford returned. A fake kick netted Ashland 8 yards and their next plunge made yardage. Ashland tried for a field goal but her kick was blocked and Medford took the ball on the visitors 46 yard line. A neat pass brought 8 yards and Williams tried for a field goal but missed. Ashland kicked and Medford advanced the ball to within twenty yards of the Ashland lino where, after another five yard gain, Dally circled the end for a touchdown on a crlss cross. Williams kicked tho goal. Medford then kicked off and Caldwell returned the ball 28 yarus to Asmanu s la yarn line. Asn land took 20 yards on a pass to But terfleld. Tho vlHltors here threatened tho homo goal. But Medford once more recovered tho ball on a fumble and kicked to safety. Ashland failed on three passes and Medford took the ball on downs. Henn plowed thru for yardago and, when held, Medford kicked over the Ashland line. Med ford caught Ashland's third attempt ed pass and Kubrick and Dally plowed through for good gains, placing the Medford team In scoring distance of Ashland's goal. Williams then smash ed thru the Ashland lino for the sec ond touchdown and his sure boot net tod tho extra point. Conrad who went In for Fabric kicked off and the ball see-sawed back and forth in tho middlo of tho field till the whistle blew. In the last few minutes of play Butterfield got away on a puss and with a clear field reeled off about thirty yards before Medford's secon dary dcftsiiHO swung into action and nailed him. "Chick took the leud in the first round In every race and held It steadily till the end, while most or the other cars that might have given htm a run dropped out through mishaps, one by one. In the six-lap race, Clark Walker, in his Kssex, won second, and Dusty' Rhodes third. This was the only ruce that the Essex ran clear through as a punctured tire stopped it In the second and engine trouble in the third. In the ten-lap face, Dusty Rhodes in his Ford, was second, and George Hmith, in tho Templar, won third. Only three cars finished In the twenty-lap raeo, out of six that Btart ed, and they finished, Chick Hawk first,, George Smith second In the Templar, and McDonald third, In a Ford Special. Thero were two motorcycle races, a four-lap and a nine-lap race. In theso Yulo Smith wan first in the four- lap ace, K. Vaughn, second, and Cecil Brown third. In tho nine-lap race, Cecil Brown was first, "Yale" Smith second, and 13. Vaughn third. There were two slight casualties in the mo torcycle races. In the first one, EI mer Smith left the track at the -north turn in the first lap and was scratch ed and torn nnd badly shaken up, and Earl Vaughn, ,who rtde with his foot resting on tho exhaust pipe, had his foot badly burned. A doctor was called from the grandstand to attend it. Cecil Brown, In the motorcycle race for time,, broke the track record, go ing one lap In 41) 1-5. The next best time was made by Yale Smith, 60 seconds. v. The weather was very good in the afternoon and the track In splendid condition, und tho attendance was large. There were not as many peo lle in the grandstand as there were ut the time of the races at the Jack son County fair, but there were more automobiles parked around tha track. Ore, BOY SCOUT TALK AT ROTARY CLUB At the regular noon meeting of the Medford Rotary club today Rev. John B. Cjan or the Methodist church South, gave a very Interesting outline of the Boy Scout work In this city aud Jackson county, and expressed his ap preciation that the Rotary club has agreed to sponsor the movement. It is planned to have a summer camp for hoy scouts In the Crater Lake national forest and also to secure quarters if possible" in the now Med ford armory. Attorney Frank New man is chairman of the Rotary com mittee having the Boy Scout work in charge.
