'NOVEMBER 1, 1923 HALLOWE'EN PARTY LOCKED IN JAIL FOR BRIEF SPELL ' Hallowe'en celebrotors, after raid ing a party on East Main street last night, landed in the city calaboose,' and languished for about three hours In durance vile. There were about 50 in the raiding party, half that number escaping en route to the jail. They were rounded up by Officer Cave, who like the malefactors was feeling in a facetious mood. Several of the Invaders, In an argu ment with Mr. Davis, at whose house a Hallowe'en party was underway, were given swift , klclts, whore they would do the most good, and Mr. Da vis was cheered by the innocent by standors for his accurate aim. Seeing that no headway could bo mado In this way, the police were called, and the raiders marched down Main street to the lock up. 1 There they sang songs until tho city firemen, unable to sleep, started a peace movo, and threatened to turn a fire hose into the cells. Finally after a lecture, and the warning that the proceedings were no Joke, they wore glvon their llvorty. White is In Medford making a final Inspec tion of the local armory preliminary to accepting the building for the itate. With him Is John Hunzlcker of Eu gene, architect for the building. Doth expressed themselves as well pleas ed with the work done by the local contractor, R. I. Stuart, and said that Medford is getting more than a dol lar's worth of building for every dol lar expended. Arrangements are also being com pleted by General Whlto for tho equip ment of the building for which there U a balance of over (4000 available. All- furnishings and equipment will be purchased In the local market ho an nounced, and bids and estimates are being secured today from Medford firms by Captain H. A. Canaday, com mander of the local National Guard company. As soon as the building has boen ac cepted and fully equipped the formal dedication will occur and Captain Canaday and his officers are planning to mnko the dedication a county af fair, ending with a military ball to which the entlro county will be Invit ed. No admission charge will be made for the ball. November 20 has been fixed as a tentative date for the dedication, contingent upon tho equip ment and furnishings bolng In place by that date. Gates and their grandson, George, ar rived home from their two months' visit In the east yesterday they brought with them seven new resi dents for Medford from the Hoosler state, who will eventually swell the Gates' vote hereabouts. Tho newcomers are: Mrs. Gates' mother, Mrs. Margaret Farnsley of Michigan City, Ind., who will make her home with Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Gates hereafter, and Mr. and Mrs. Will Kellogg and their four daughters, also ot Michigan City, who will reside here.
