PAOE ETGTTT rEDFOTTDVATL TRTBTTXE, METTFORD, OREflONT, "WEDNESDAY. OCTOBER 31 , 1923 MANN'S THE BEST GOODS FOR THE PRICE, NO MATTER WHAT THE PRICE MANN'S E .ATTY, The announcement by Rawles Mooro yesterday afternoon that he had re signed his position as district attor ney of Jackson county to become effec tive practically at once, and with it an explanation to the public of his reasons for resigning, created much surprise throughout the . city and county. His successor, to serve out his un expired term of ovor a year, will be named by Governor Walter N. Pierce, and hence in this city and olsewhore today speculation was rife as to who would receive the apolntmcnt. Mr. Moore had nothing further to say about his resignation except that he hoped to be clear of the office as noon us possible and that whou re leased from its duties ho would de vote his entire tlmo to private law practice, and would retain his present offices In tho Medford Center bullfl intf. General opinion hero today held to the belief that Governor Pierce would appoint O. C. Hoggs of Medford to tho office, inasmuch as(some tlmo ago be appointed Mr. Hoggs as special prosecutor to prosecute liquor law vio lation cases In this county. District Attorney Moore objected to this ap pointment, held that it was unjust and illegal, and had begun proceedings in tho supremo court to question the logal right of such an appointment, which he was compelled to forego be ciuibo of the train holdup and mur ders taking all his time. It becamo known today that Don Nowlmry, republican, well known yountf Modford uUornoy and American Legion vetoran, was a candidate for tha appolntmont. Speculation also had it that Attornoy William Iliiggs of Ashland might obtain the appoint ment, as It has been known for some lime past he would be a cundldato on the republican ticket) for the office when Rawles Moore's four year torm pxplrod.
