ASHLAND, Oct. 30. The demand
for carbonic gas. which Is shipped
from the Pompadour Lithia Springs,
has materially Increased very recent
ly aB a result of the discovery that
butter churned In an atmosphere of
tills gaa is much purer and keeps hot
ter. One dairy In Oregon is now
charging their butter this way and
have proved that the resulting prod
uct Is not only purer and sweeter, but
thut It will keep excellently until used
and will not deterorlnto in the pack
age. During tho past two years, ex
perimenting has been carried on at
the dehydrating plants of the Kings
Products Company which has resulted
in the perfection of a mothod for pack
ing their dried fond products in an
atmosphere of tho carbonic gas, which
Is by far superior to the old method
and will be used In the future. Owing
to the parity of the gas made at the
Pompadour Llthla Springs, large quan
tities are being shipped frequently to
these two concerns as they aro obtain
Ing the entire amount of that used
from this place.
Mr. J. 11. Kohagen, manager of En
dor's novolly department, has recent
ly returned from Iowa, whore he has
been spending his vacation with his
mother. Mr. Kohagen reported that
even though he vlsitod many places
renownod for their beauty; he found
none1 equal to the beauty of Ashland
, The football gamo which was played
Saturday nftornoon with Grants Pass
in their own field resulted In a tie,

though neither side was able to score.
Grants Pass defeated Ashland earlier
in tho season. A novel foaturo in tho

staged as a preliminary to tho main

brave freshmen wore thore, and most

the -Initiation coromony, from which
tho freshmen emerged with their
months bitten by rod poppers, thoir

charades. After delicious refresh
ments of pumpkin pie and cider had
been served, the weary freshmen de
parted far home, thankful that their
Initiation was over and dreading some
of the freshman days to come.

homes of Mr. nnd Mrs. Guy Good nnd
Mr. and Mrs. B. C. Forsythe, Satur
day night. The different 'members

Mr. Forsythe's cars nnd were led
through some gruesome collars' and
tunnels, finally to the front door. For
a while then everything was done
backwards, which afforded a lot of
amusement. , After different games.

ed, refreshments of elder and corn
candy were served, and different songs
were sung. Tho guests were then
told to prepare to go home, which
