I am of the sumo opinion as State Supt. Churchill, when he expressed himself at one of our special bourd meetings. A member of the board oBkod him how we should proceed to get a bond issue for a JSDO.OOO high school. Mr,,.. Churchill, seemingly with great surprise, asked what we would do with a $250,000' high school and the buildings we now hove. I myself am In favor of first finish ing the buildings on hands which would give, us eight or ton additional rooms and If necessary building an annex to the;' present high school building. I don't heliove our district Is fi nancially, able to shoulder such an enormous burdon now. The reason that only $1.C5,000 is being asked for now is that amount of bond Issue Is our limit at present and an nddl tloual bond issuo will be needed to complete tho proposed building. At the last board meeting a rep resentative of the city council asked us to relinquish tho taxes on about 200 pieces of property which tho city rod taken over for, taxes last year, This means a loss of $G000 to our schools this year. It looks as If the "hangers on" are carrying about enough taxes. This year's budget carries a tax of 20.5 mills, which is one of the highest In tho state. , I asked the board to submit tho annex "proposition , along with the bond issue, but they were afraid the people would be confused and agreed to submit It later if their proposition failed., - I do not think tho proposed site Is suitable because it is not centrally located.
