Kenneth Day of the firm of tgobeli and Day departed yesterday for the north after a aereral days visit here looking over the fruit situation and discussing condition with the local representative of the firm, C. C. Lcai tr.oa. Mr. Day said he had been in Cali fornia for the past five weeks and that Ibis was his seventeenth annual trip through the fruit districts. Ac cording to Mr. Day the outlook is bright for good prices and good mar ket conditions. Iast year was ex tremely bad due to shortage of cars, rail and coal strikes, local strikes in big business centers and unemploy ment throughout the country, said Mr Day. This year, according to the manager of the firm, the crop on the Sacramen to river and in other BarUett pear districts of California is light, due to blight conditions the year is the off year in the east and the demand for fruit will exceed the supply. The can neries are cleaned op on their stock of No. 1 pears and will have to pay J53 to 170 per ton next fall, in his opinion. Local conditions are good. The crop promises to be fairly heavy and the marketing conditions excellent, due to increased demand and buying rower on the part of the fceopie. Aside from a few blunders by the field offic ials the meet was a success. The management should take special pains to secure eificient officials for future meet. Of much interest to the community is the announcement of the openins of the Nat plunge tomorrow at 2 o'clock. A' number of improvements ! have been made in the plunge room j for this season to conform to the needs of the tourists who will have .access to the pool from the camp II ground entrance. ' The financing of the project was elected while Mr. McAdoo was sec retary of the treasury In 1916, and completion delayed by the world war. "This is the first monument to be erected to Alexander Hamilton in ' Washington." said Mr. McAdoo. "It is a tardy recognition of his great service to the nation. It Is made pos sible through the generosity of a patriotic New York woman, who has never been willing to have her Idea tity revealed." James E. The investigation by a joint legisla tive committee from the Florida leg- The first Y. M. C. A. game of the season will be played tonight at the High School grounds at C:13. The opener will be between the North Methodists, winners of the basket ball championship, and the Christians who ran a close second for' basketball honors. The fttfl season's schedule will ap pear shortly. This calls for three games per week on Mondays, Thurs days and Fridays at the twilight hour as above noted. Present Indications are that the five Medford teams will be Included as usual. Central Point is asking for admission also so that a possible six-cornered league will be the outcome. There will be no admission charge for these games but a Eilver offering will be taken now and then to help defray the necessary expense. To night's game will not be one at which an offering is asked.
