DOWN CATHEDRAL TO SPITE RUSSIA WARSAW, April During the Russian- regime a Runsian cathedral was erected in Warsaw. Richly decorat ed with paintings and wonderful mo rales, it was an object of admiration of all foreigners who visited the city. To the Poles, however; it was but another symbol of Russian oppres sion. . When, in 1915, the Russians with drew from Warsaw, the. first Impulse of the populace was to destroy this cathedral, but other counsel prevail ed. The Germans In their ' occupa tion of Warsaw, stripped It of its bronze roofs, which they replaced with wooden ones. But theso. roofs afforded poor protection against the weather, and tt was soon found necessary .to close the cathedral. Owing "to its present dilapidated condition and the reluctance of the Poles to spend money on the restora tion of a monument which has always been hateful to them, It has been decided that it shall be pulled down.
