company, filed suit In the county dis
trict court here today against the

wages amounting to $2,500,000 a year
for 22,000 employes of tho Standard
Oil company of Indiana, granted by

ials. An Increase of five cents an bour,
offectlve May 10, will apply to a grout
majority of tho employes working In
refineries of the company at Whiting,
Ind., Wood River, 111., Sugar Crook,
Mo., Casper, Greyhull and Laramie,
Wyo., who aro working on an hourly
basis.
In some Instances the advance will
be less than five cents an hour, while
in about nn equal number of cases tho
advance will .amount to more than that
sum. Employes on a salary basis, the
announcement stated, in all depart
ments of the company, will have an
adjustment of their salaries July 1.

Clara Snyder, secretary of the Com
munity "church ot Yakima, was the
principal witness today in the $."0,
000 libel suit brought by T. L. Ten
nant against Rev. V. C. Whitney, pas
tor of the Calvary Baptist church.
Mrs. Snyder was formerly Tennant's
housekeeper. Tennant Is suing be
cause of criticisms by Whitney, fol
lowing the former's acquittal on a
"Uooze" charge. He has entered a
plea of justification. Mrs. Snyder
testified that Tenuant had "liquor
bottles, big ones, small ones, wide
ones and narrow ones," in his desk
hut on cross examination admitted
sho had not tested the contents and
her evidence was ordered stricken
out.

lieved tho present traffic jam will be
