this picnic is to increase the member

Dr. Lincoln Wirt, who will address a
mass meeting at tho Ircsbytorian
church next Tuesday, tho Near East
organization, orlginnlly Amerlian, is
rapidly becoming internationalised.
On n recent journoy through the
Orient as international commissioner
for tho Near East Relief, Dr. Wirt
established co-operating organizations
in Japan, Korea, the Philippines,
China, Australia, and New Zealand
countries previously untouched by
tills humanitarian effort.
'My message was received every
where with courtesy and rescinded ti
with gratifying generosity," ho says.
"The object of tho International com
mission is to bring about an entente of
frlendshli to stretch a golden chain
of mercy round the world."
Dr. Wirt, who was in Smyrna short
ly after the fire, and Inter visited the
refugee camps in Athens and the
Greek Islands, graphically describes
the plight of hundreds ot thousands of
human bolngs whom disasters of the
past few months havo rendered home-
loss and destitute.
During the war Dr. Wirt was a
speaker and organizer for the Red
Cross, In this work making several
trips abroad, once accompanying Sec
retary ot War Baker and with him
visiting various relief centers in Eur
ope. Before entering relief work Dr.
Wirt was a minister, and held pastor
ates in Oakland, Calif., and Brockton,
Moss. He also engaged in missionary
work in Alaska. He is a native of
Michigan and was ordained to tho
Congregational ministry in 1890.
