and the bear that Wallace Williams
nearly shot came close to running
them down and injuring them. Accord
ing to local sportBinen, Daily claims

Because of the activities of certain
secret organizations in Oregon, the
legislature will be asked ut Its next
session to enact legislation providing
that the bylaws and membership of
any secret organization, lodge or so
ciety shall be filed with the secretary
of state. This was announced in a.
letter received at the state house in
Salem last week. Portland Journal.

awarded the contract for the rebuild
ing of the Valley Garage has taken
charge and a crew of men Is at work
today removing burned timbers from
tho upper story and making ready to
rebuild at once. '

"Oregon Bond," owned by Scott
Woolf again won first place in harness
races last Tuesday, Aug. 15 at Belllng
ham, Wash., and then won second
money two days after nt Bellinghnm.
This is only the second year out for
tho horse and in every race In which
he was entered he has won a place.
He is to race at Vancouver next week
and is to be driven by Mr. Swisher,
owner of the well known Halley B, who
has also made a fine record this year
winning places in every race..

The boys and girls of the valley are
taking great Interest and are enthused

Under the direction and help of Lloyd
A. Moss, leader of the boys' and girls'
fair exhibits and club work, they are
planning some excellent work for the
fair. Already three stock Judging teams
havo been selected, one from Central
Point, Ashland, and Talent for. the
boys.. Then a committee of two, Mil
dred Hughes and Margaret Mote of
Phoenix, for the girls has been selected
for the judging of bread. Two canning
teams of Sams Valley and Medford will
compete. The nearer the time for the
fair the more the interest of the young
people waxes and they are expected to
take an active part in the'eounty fair,
especially on their day, Sept. 15th.
O. L. Saiuuolson left today for Grants
Pass and will later go on to Roseburg
and then to his headquarters In Port
land. He has been here for two weeks

George T. Collins, state president
of the Elks,, spent yesterday in Port
land conferring with the general coin--mittee
of that fraternity. He registered
at the Multnoman. Mr. Collins Is also
one of the directors of the Crater Lake
National Park company. Crater Lake
is becoming more popular every year,
Mr. Collins stated, and southeastern
Oregon is rapidly becoming a mecca ;
for tourists. All of southern Oregon '
is experiencing an Inereasefin tourist
visitors, which Mr. Collins considers'
due to the greater attraction of Ore
gon's national park. "I believe in
Crater Lake and the national, park,"
said .Mr. Collins, "and I am looking
forward to greater things when more
people realize what It Is we have
here." The Oregonian.
Mr. and Mrs. C. C. Turner stopped
off Monday enroute from California to
their home in Dickinson, N. D., to visit
Mr. and Mrs. D..E. Millard. Mrs. Tur
ner is Mr. Millard's sister. She was a
delegate from herhome lodge to the.
