About a week ago some hard-hearted
tourist dropped a young collie doj
along the Pacific highway and sped on
witnout ner. The dog has boen with
out a master and without a home for
a week and has been roaming the
streets of Medford like a trump. Some
one struck he with a rock and caused
a sore spot on the top of her head and
she faced the prospect of being gen
erally down on her luck until this mor
ning when the Oregon Exposition raru.

Game Warden Bancroft has returned ;
from an inspection of the place where ,
the four deer were slaughtered lasti
week, near the L.ind ranch. The men
who killed the deer made two trips, '

about 2 o'clock, he found. Eleven shots

C. M. McAIister of the Portland Stock
Yards gave an' interesting lecture on
"Hogs," with motion picture slides to

club work of interest not only to the
young people but to the older people as
well. The next community meeting
will be held next Monday night at the
Griffin creek school house, when Mr.
McAIister will agaip address the com

OBITUARY
TOWNSEXD Alexander P. Town
send died at the home, 502 North
Riverside, Saturday, Aug. 19th. Ho
was born at Republican Grove, Vir
ginia, May 7th, lSCa.
He went to St. Louis in 1S93 and
later moved to Joplin, Mo.
His health failed him about a year
ago, and ho was in a Denver sani
tarium until ten days ago, when he
came to Medford for his health and
to be with his sisters.
He leaves to mourn his loss, his
wife, Mrs. Mabel Townsend, and one
son, Eugene, aged 11 years; two sis
ters. Mrs. V. E. Fetzer and Mrs. -Mary
A. Eickermali.
Ho was a member of tho First Bap
tist church. Funeral services will be
held at the Perl Funeral Home Sun
day at 2:30 p. m., the Rev. Coy R.
Sims officiating.
MESSECAR Lewis Walter Mes-

Work at the Trigonia Oil well is
progressing rapidly aud in a very
satisfactory manner according to Col.
J. F .MunUy. who is now in charge
of operations there.
He states that the new tools which
are now in the well are being sunk
at the rate of,. 20 feet per day and
that they are cutting through oil sand
which contains showings of oil.
The visitors at tue weil are many
since the steady and rapid drilling
has been In progress and anyone who
is interested in the development of
oil in' tho Rogue River valley is wel
come. The well will operate tomorrow
and drilling will continue as usual.

the operations and progress made.
