Tooze, who as chairman of the republican state cen tral committee 1s in Medford to ad dress the republican banquet to be given in his honor tonight. following the regular business meet ing Mr. Tooze spoke In advocacy of the ex-service man taking a strong Interest In politics. The , speaker's remarks were of a non-partisan nature. He de clared that as the legionnaire was sworn to uphold the constitution and the laws of the country he was as )xjiuch in the country's service as when wearing the uniform and pointed out the necessity of the individual working along party lines, either as a democrat or republican, if higher ideals in gov ernment were to be achieved. Mr. Tooze declared himself as strongly opposed to any dabbling in politics by the American Legion, as an organ izatfon. A committee was named by Com mander Wilson to prepare for the an nual Labor Day dance which will be given Monday, September 4. The com mittee includes Horace Hroniley, Earl York, Donald Ileames, Cole Holmes,, and B. It. Elliott. Following receipt of an invitation to attend the Soldiers and Sailors' re union at Kogue River on September 6th, it was voted to send a delegation of Medford legion members to the re union and a committee was named to perfect arrangements. Membership will be solicit ed throughout the county after the perfection of the organization. Mr. Winburn has started off this nociety with a liberal fund for the treasury. Harvey died at Sacred Heart hospital August 15. Deceased was born at Gresham, Ore., Dec. 3, 1900, and was aged 21 years, 8 months, 12 days.'.
