will begin in the numerous orchards
of the valley net week. Several of
the larger orchards are expected to
start the latter part of this week how
ever. Packing houses of the valley are
ready to handle the crop which Is an
excellent one this year. .Many of the
packing houses have had box makers
at work for the past six weeks getting
ready a supply of thousands of boxes
for the season's pack. Orchardlsts are
anxious as to the outcome of the rail
road strike. Local railroad officials
aro undetermined as to whether refrig
erator cars can be secured in sufficient
numbers to handle the crop or not.

H. L. Walther of the California
Oregon Power company, who is now in
Ranter national park on his vacation,
writes that he Is enjoying himself but
that aside from the profusion of wild j
flowers growing in Ranier park that
the park cannot compare with Crater
National park as a recreation place nor
for beauty.

from Atlantic City, N. J where he has
liecn for the past several weeks and
where he went as a delegate from the
Medford lodge No. HGtWof the B. P. O.
K. Mrs. Jerome who accompanied him
remained In Seattle as when they ar
rived in that city she was confronted
with the sad news of her father's
