Mrs. Maud Lammey and her two
boys, who have been assisting In the initials, and he said no

construction camps near Prospect,
gave up her job and startod for Ban
don Wednesday, stopping at the Sun
nyslde overnight. She was brought
out from the camp by Alex Betts, and
they were joined 'by Perl Stewell
Wednesday evening, and all started
Thursday in a Ford on their jour
ney. Among the callers Wednesday was
Green Mathews, one of our prosper
ous farmers and stockmen, was In
town, and as I was jotting down the
item, there happened to he a man of
our thriving town came in the Child
re th blacksmith shop and incidental
ly asked him if the late fire in the
timber had damaged him much, and
ho replied no, very abruptly and no
ticing that I was writing In my little
book, asked if I .was putting that
down and I answered, no, air; and
ho wanted to know if I had forgot
ten what he had told mo several years
ago, to-wit: Never to put his name
In the Mail Tribune, and I assured
him that I had not and furthermore
that I had not and never had and
never expected to, and he seemed to
feel greatly relieved.
The same day I met a lady friend
who gave me an Item and remarked
that she liked to see her name in the
paper and she thought that most of
people did, aud from my experience
as newspaper correspondent for al
most sixty-four years. I find that she
was correct In her conclusion, but
there are always exceptions to all
general rules.
The same day I met Lemon Char
ley, and he introduced me to B.-F.
Hurst, a second cousin of his.' qf
Carryton, Indiana, whqwas here vis
iting him. And in the.run of conver
sation told me that liehad purchased
the tract Joining his place he had
purchased ot Mr. Brighton, of Clif
ford Hickson, about four or five
acres set in alfalfa.
Dr. Kirchgressner ot the Dobner
Gap was visiting our town the same
day The same day I met Mrs. L. A.
(Roy) Smith, Mrs. Wm. Perry and
Mrs. Delia Day and Mrs. Smith re
marked that she and Delia had been
down and taken dinner with Mrs. W.
L. Childreth that day but they had
all got together in the afternoon.
There was a very interesting play
party given in honor of Miss Clara
Enew of Los Angeles, who was here
at that time, Saturday evening, July
22, visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs.
Fred Pettygrew. There were 42
present and refreshments were serv
ed by 'rs. Rose Smith and a very en
joyable ftme was had. . .
'Mrs. Haymond, Phoenix,. and her
daughter", I have forgotten the given
name, were here Thudsday and Mrs.
Haymond informed me of the death
of her husband a short time since.
Mr. Haymond lived on the J. H. Cool
ey orchard for some time and the
family was highly respected. I ask
ed one of our leading merchants if
he could give mo his given name or
that they
traded with him, but always paid
cash, and never had their names on
the books.
Mrs. Ella H. Smith of Butte Falls,
who has been visiting her daughter,
Mrs. Ed Cowdon, came in Thursday
and went up to her home on the Med-ford-Butte
Falls stage.
Mrs. L. M. Phillips, Trail, and her
daughter, Mrs. Bernice, came out
Thursday and went on to Medford
after taking dinner, remaining over
night, and Mrs. Phillips is the wife
of the Free 'Methodist, minister at
Trail.
Up to 11 o'clock today, Saturday
a. m., the voters were keeping the
election hoard busy, people coming
in by the car load and men and
viomen signing up their registering
cards who have not voted for years,
and some who have not voted at al,
and the result of the election will be
anxiously looked for in tho Modford
Sun Sunday morning.
