The road from Crater Lake to Dia
mond lake is not yet open owing to
the large amount of snow around the
rim of Crater Lake. A crew of men is
at work cutting the drifts, however,
and It is expected that traffic will be
open within several weeks.

among the Medford people who attend

night. It was the opening dance of the
season and a number of persons from
Crater Lake made the trip from the

Mrs. Wm. Belmont of Bend, Mr.
Mann of Salem and JJr. Rodenhamer
of Portland were seriously injured
last night when an OldBmoble road
ster, belonging to William Belmont
of Bend, left the road at Neal creek
bridge on the Pacific highway several
miles south of Ashland.
According to reports, tho Oldsmo
blle, driven by -Mann, was racing
with a Hudson Super-Six. The cars
were coming south on tho highway
at an excessive rate of speed and the
Oldsmobile ran off the road instead
of crossing the bridge. The car
practically leaped across Neil creek
before striking and . then rolled ana
slid a hundred feet over rocks and
boulders. The car Is . a complete
wreck, all four wheels, top, windshield
and one side of the. body having been
smashed. It Is thought that one or
two complete revolutions were made
by the car after the leap from the
bridge although it was in an upright
position when It came to rest.
Rodenhamer was out of the hos
pital and was walking around this
morning. Mann is seriously cut and
bruised. Mrs. Belmont is injured In
ternally and the exact extent of her
injury is as yet indefinite.
Persons who viewed the remains of
the car after the wreck had happened
state that they' do not understand
why all of the members of the party
were not killed.
