From all appearances our little town
and surrounding country will be practi
cally deserted next Monday and Tues
day for It seems that almost everyone
who can get away Is going somewhere,
some to Ashland, some to Yrcka, Hutte
Falls, Dead Indian Soda Springs, Lake
Creek, some are going fishing , and
Frank Lewis and your correspondent
left to look after the town Interests.
Today, Saturday, will be a day of
change In business affairs, for the
men who have engaged carrying the
mail to and from this postoffico whose
contracts expire June 30. The new
men will start on their contracts to
day, Saturday,' and It might bo of Inter
est to know who tho new contractors
are, their rents, the distance to travel
and the compensation.
George Holmes, our garage man, has
secured the contract to carry the mall
from Medford via Eagle Point, Derby
to Butte Falls daily except Sunday, of
ficial distance '33 miles, and from
Bugle Point to Medford and back Sun
day. Consideration $3482.40 per year.
Samuel F. Coy, Eagle Point-Climax
way, twenty and a half miles each way,
consideration $935.30. Joseph E. Cul
bertson, Bagle Point-Lake Creek route,

The distance from Medford to Butto
Falls is rated at 33 miles but the car
rier has to make the trip from Eagle
Point to Medford four times each day

afternoon in Eaglo Point resulting In
tho death of Harold Denton, son of
Mr. nnd Mrs. Alvin Denton of this

father haul hay slid down off the back

eral trucks carrying heavy timbers
for the poles. Homo are destroying
to ISlg Creek roads by having too
heavy loads, as the grades cave out
on tho sides.
George Hall is completing his
ditch. He has water running in
tho ditch. This ditch Is about one
mile In length, between 2 to 4 feet
deep and 3 feet wide, snmo places it
Is wider. Tho ditch was difficult to
dig for tho survey ran thru solid
rock- Mr. Hall has also cut some of
1iIh grain.

Mr. and Mrs. F. A. Whitley were

Sunday the 25th. Kara Whitley ac
companied them. It was quite a trip
for Mr. Whitley as ho will be 79
July fourth. He is not able to get
around very much as he is weak
with old age. ,

The annual summer camp for the
Y. M. C. A. will havo Its headquar
ters on Mr. Dane Peitce's place, above
Mr. Claud Moore's placo, It was for
merly known as the Storms place by
people In this vicinity. Mr. Wood,
who will have charge of the camp,
states that between 40 and 50 boys
will bo present. Some honor to Elk
Creek. The. camp term will be ten
days. The boys' will come in cars as
far as Trail and hike to camp from
Trail, which Is a distance of 6 Vj
miles. Elk Cj'cek welcomes them.
