for noma and the street car will be
available at 6 p. m. Get oft at Per
rydale. This Is a fine, cool, shaded
spot. Tho new members of the
church are extended a special Invita
tion to come and give a chance for
mutual acquaintance. There is also
plenty of room for the children to
play.

Sam Hume, director of the Greek
theater at the University of California,
Berkeley, gnve an Informal tnlk at the
public library Monday on the plans
and ideals ot the Western Association
of Art Directors, and as a result steps
will be taken to carry out certain fea
tures of the work here.
Mr. Hume set forth that western
artists get their genre from their en
vironment, not the atmosphere of Lon
don, Paris and New York, and that
their pictures portraythe spirit of the
west. The association is endeavoring
to make their works available to all,
and to this end a traveling exhibit of
paintings of western artists will be
presented here at an early date.
It was also urgett by Mr. Hume that
the work of the artists, musicians and
dramatists be co-ordinated so as to
obtain the best results with the theater
as the center. Good progress has been
made In this plan in California; and It
1b hoped to duplicate the interest in
this state. '
The directors of the Jackson County
Fair association will meet this evening
at the exhibit building to consider the
many details incident to the operation
of the fair In September. The difficult
task before them.ls to estimate the in
come and base the expenditures to
come within 6a me.
The entrance building, with the ex
ception of being painted, will he tia
Ished by the end of this week and as
this is but a sample of the character
of all of the buildings to be construct
ed, the citizens oi the county are given
an early glance ot what to expect when
the entire building program is com
pleted. 1
All the farmers must begin to real
ize that the fair Is for their benefit.
The educational value of the fair is
already being recognized by some who
were originally opiosed to the move
ment and are making preparations to
exhibit stock and agricultural pro
ducts. Jackson county produces won
derful crops and there are many breeds
ot pure bred and registered horses,
cattle, sheep and. hogs, which when
displayed at the fair would make an
exhibit well worth traveling miles to
inspect. Farmers having these exhib
its should not take an Indifferent view
of the fair hut they should begin now
j to arrange to display them.
In the past there has been a charge
made to enter stock which was to com
pete -or a premium but the directors of
the fair have decided that no such fee
is to be charged this year.

The Craters at their regular semi
monthly eruption last evening received
a telegram from Alex Sparrow thank
ing them for their assistance In fur
nishing tho hot air to melt the snow
on the Crater 'Luke road so that this
road is now open for travel to the
hotel.
To have Medford represented by a
float In the 4th of July parade at Ash-1
land was the unanimous sentiment of
the Craters and committees were ap
pointed to confer with the chamber of
commerce and city officials to assist j
the Crutet'B in financing sume.
Shorty Garnett was the guest of the
evening and he delivered one ot true
to form Garnett talks. He said that
although he was a resident of another
stute, he would always have a kindly
feeling toward Medford and an Inter
est In her growth and development.

grip on auto owners and' In the opin
ion of the Craters no resident of Med
ford should leave the city without a
Medford name plate on his car.
A Crater recently made a trip as
far north as Seattle, and in every In
stance where he had parked his car,
he had people stop him and ask
about Medford. This was the result
of the Medford name plate on his car.
These name plates sell for $2.00
per set and can be secured at the of
fice of the Chamber of Commerce or
from any member of tho Craters club.
Out of the 200 sets which the Craters
purchased, there are but 50 unsold
so that those who wish to give this
advertising to Medford should pur
chase same without delay.
SALEM Juno 28. Certification of
$400,000 in bonds for tho Eagle Point
irrigation district In Juckson county
was approved by the state irrigation
securities commission yesterday. The
issue will be used in the improvement
ot the district, Including the construc
tion of a canal IS miles in length,
through which water will be diverted
from Dig butte creok to the 6200 acres
included in the district. No storage of
water will be required.

EUGENE, Ore., June 2". Enjoining
the uane county court from spending
$23,000 of market road money on the
Pacific highway in the construction of
a bridge north of Cottage Grove, a de
cision was handed down today by
Judge Skipworth in the case of S. M.
Calkins, against the county court. The
decision affects the whole state road
program.
