R. M. Robinson's home on the Apple
gate river, Jnst above Wilderville, in
Josephine county, was totally destroy
ed by fire Thursday merning at 7:30
o'clock. The house was built 30 years
ago by Mr. Robinson, who had occu
' pled it ever since. Contents valued at
$1000 were destroyed and the house
was valued at about $2000. There was
a very small amount' of insurance. ' '

way commissioners in the city today
with Chief Engineer Fletcher of the
siuthern state in conference (with Ore
gon officials, prompt action' on the
Crescent City highway appears to be
assured. C. C. Kelly, assistant chief
engineer of Oregon, and K. 8. Hall,
chemical engineer, arrived from Salem
this morning to meet the California
officials. Commissioners Darlington,
W'hitemore and Bedford will leave
with the Oregon engineers to go over
the proiKmed route tomorrow. ' A crew
of engineers is now busy near the line
locating the grade which will elimin
ate Oregon mountain. It is expected
that active work will be started on the
