iN'o advices had been received up to
that time of how the vote was com
ing out in other towns and the rural
districts. However It was Eenerally
thought by. those familiar with Jack
son county politics that last nisht's
hard rain and the small showers today
had prevented the farmers from
working, which fact would induce
them to visit their precincts and vote.
It was also thought there would be
a rush of voters to the polls in the
late afternoon and early evening if
the weather was good. The polls do
not close until 8 o'clock. The over
whelming majority of the votes cast,
naturally were by republicans, due
both to the fact that the democrats
are in a hopeless minority and the
lad that they had no contests for
nominations; in fact had unopposed
" candidates fir only two district of
fices, that for circuit judge and that
lor state senator, and a large portion
ff thelr state and local ticket was not
filled.
This afternoon jt was estimated
that only about 50 per cent or less of
the registered vote of Medford would
, be cast at today's election. Here are
a few figures of the vote cast up to

There was some confusion at a
number of precincts owing to Inad
equate voting arrangements and fa
cilities. The election board of the
South Central precinct was unable to
effect an entrance to that voting place
in the rear room of Paul's electric
store because the doors were locked
, and "tliey bad been provided with no
key. Finally, twenty minutes after
8 o'clock, entrance was effected only
to find that proper equipment had

making his rounds, discovered this
state of affairs and rectified it.
At the Roxy Ann prec'net the elecr
tion board arrived to. open up the
polls to find that no election booths
had been provided, and the voters
were voting men of the day at thl
precinct by writing out their tickets
backed against the wall.
Election returns will be received by
the Mail TrUiune office by telegraph
