T Y Y Y Y Y Y Y Y l fa. ii mil I III lit I At the primary Friday, May 19, you will nominate your candidate for the office of Circuit Judge, and he, if successful at the general election, will preside as such for a term of six years. Who is able to say that during that period she or he will not be before that court with questions involving important property rightspersonal liberty or even life itself? In becoming a candidate for this exalted position, I did so with full realization of its great responsibilities and with a determination if elected to do everything hu manly possible to discharge the high duties of the office. After 25 years of the active practice of law, I know as a lawyer that a judge should always maintain a free and open mind to the end that he may act impartially and without prejudice in all matters that come before his court. 0 As a candidate for judge, I know that it is highly improper for me to engage in public discussion, either from the platform or through the public press, or in any other manner, or to form opinions concerning questions that might be presented to me for decision. My convictions upon this subject are so fixed that I have at all times and do now refuse to violate them, believing that to do so would be proof positive of my unfitness. If elected I will take office without pledge or inti mation of pledge to any newspaper, . organization or human being and with no other duty to perform than that growing out of my oath of office. UPON THIS STATEMENT I SUBMIT MY CANDIDACY FOR CIRCUIT JUDGE AND THE CORRECTNESS OF MY POSITION WILL BE DETERMINED BY YOUR VOTES MAY 19th. C M. THOMAS We, the Undersigned, Strongly Endorse the Above Statement and Believe that Any Candidate Who Pursues the Opposite of this Policy Thereby Disqualifies Himself for the High Position of Judge C.
