f A(1E STX M"EDFORT fATTj TRTBTTNE, MKDFOUD, OTiEflOX. MONDAY." MAY- 1.V?if22 FINAL IE I Y. IVi. C. A. HELD IN MEDFORD -TONIGHT EAGLE POINT EAGLETS By .. O. Hri,H The proKram for tho Jackson County Y. M. C. A. Training Institute will be concluded this evening at 8 o'clork nt the Presbyterian church, ns far ns the Activities In Medford are concerned, ewlnit to tho Inability of J. C. Clark of the Shanghai, China Y. M. C. A., to remain over until Wednesday when he was to appear on the program. As the program for Medford is there tors curtailed to tho one meeting this evenlns, an extra effort Is being made by the local committee to make the meeting of Interest to all who bare the "Y" work at heart. To that end the speakers for the evening will combine the subjects which were originally to be given on both Monday and Wednes day evenings, and the, program of music will also be augmented, the best talent in ' the city volunteering their services for the occasion. Mr. P. C. Knapp, state secret ary of county work "In California, will open the speaking program, taking: as his subject "The County Work Idea," and Religious Work Activities." ' John H. Rudd, state secretary of the county work, in Oregon will spak on the "Importance of Boys' Group" and the Trice of Leadership." ' , Both of these speakers are recog nized as leaders of national reputation in Y. M. C. A. activities. nd no one in sympathy with the "Y" cause should fail to attend. The musical numbers will be given by Mrs. Ben Lindas, Carleton Jaynes and Miss Ruth Warner, offering a pro gram in keeping with the high stan dard set by the speakers for the even ing. . No admission will be charged, and a general invitation is extended to the public to come to the meeting at 8 O'clock and lend their support to the work on which the local committee is laboring. j ; Day or Night jVEKSCONGER CO ? Funeral Director A. M. Gay who with Ed Spencer bn taken a five year lease of a tiait oi 'bind in a piece of mnsh hint neat iltancheriti Prairt.i, beyond Hutto I' nils lis lime o;i business. They hnv iif.roed to clear and put In ntltiv.'tion " Ihe entire tract for the use of it f-v five 'years, it being close to the rout of the extension of the P. & K. rntlrwid , they ,are intending to turn their atten tion to raising vegetables and berries "to feed the men who will be working n the logging camps and will be other iwiso employed in that line of business. George Tierce of Medford was here i n business Wednesday. Chief of Police O. S. Timothy, wife nml llltlrt crtimt.trtiiMtttfti. ?t M.i.!Vii'l 'were out here on business last Wed , nesday, to interview Fred Fredagar who Is stopping at present at the jsunnyslde, while ho is looking after j bis orchard and planting the part that is not in fruit trees in corn. His business seemed to be with regard to la town lot that Mr. Fredagar had sold Isonie years ago, because ho did not j think then that it was worth what the 'street and water assessments on it would amount to, so he sold it at a i nominal price, one dollar, and it ap pear to the other fellow that it was a good buy so did not have, the deed recorded, and so it became delinquent in Mr. Fredagar's name, the very thing that Mr. Fredagar was trying to avoid. So I guess that the city of Medford will have to take it over for the" taxes, the very thing that is hap pening to a number of our little incor porated towns. Hamilton Patton of Medford and C. F. Hamilton of Portland were here for dinner and over night at the Sunnyside Wednesday. And George Holmes, our garage man and wife, and W. G. Smith were here for dinner. Mr. and Mrs. Royal Brown and Miss Gertrude Wiley of Central Point, who have been elected to act as primary teacher during tho next school year, were here for dlnne'r Wednesday. Miss Alice' Train who has been in charge of the' primary department of our school, and has been giving such gen eral satisfaction that the school board was anxious to have her take the school for another year decided not to accept the offer as her mother, who is living in California requires her ser vices at home. But Miss Wiley looks as though she might fill the position satisfactorily as she Is n experienced teacher and comes well recommended. jThe school board has also employed our present principal, Mrs. George j Holmes as the principal for tho coming year. I met a little boy Wednesday walk ing on a crutch and cane and upon questioning him learned that his name was Jerry Fny and that he had a bro ken leg, caused by the breaking of a .hayrack, that ha was living with his ! grand parents, Mr. and Mrs. Young who are in charge of tho Frank Rhodes 'dairy and Kultry Turin about two I miles from town. I ' And speaking of the Young .family, j brings to mind another Incident. There are two families together. Mr. Young and his son In law. Mr. Ferguson, en the place and they were s; crowded I for room that they have divided up and jhave rented' the Fredagar house that ho recently moved out of town the JaineB Ringer housQ. A part of them ! 4 ara Hvtntr I lie re 1 also met three bova In their teens here in town with a mule j 'team that I recognized as belonging j jto tho Rhodes farm and in con versa-j I nun wiiii uiviu ieni iitru mm. iin'j ii' I sons or Mr. Young and that they had 'come to town with the team to take !out 2100 wee chicks that were coming !out from Medford that morning to he J taken out to the ranch and that they 'already had WHO young chicks hatched lout there. And speaking about chicks j brings to mind another incident last Sunday. We missed Mrs. Carl F.sch 'from her class In our Sunday school 'and Inquiring of her husband the cause jof her absence learned that she had Must brought off 500 liltle chicks and had to stay and care for them, so the reader will see that everybody In this section isswt asleop. but Eagle Point is waking up and expects to bo up with the foremost I see that Sam Courtney has painted three signs for F. J. McPherson where 'the old T, E. Nichols signs were and Mr. McPherson is trying to bring about a little revolution in the mercan tile business. Mrs. Ed Wolfor, daughter of our townsman, James Jordan of Hubbard, Ore., came in about mid-week to visit jher father. Her husband, Ed Wolfer. iwas for some time in the tinners busi ness in Medford and later went Into !the strawberry business In this neigh borhood and finally married and moved 'to Hubbard, Ore., where he is now' in business. Among the diners Thursday were J. W. Snider of the Independence creamery. Medford, and he report that he receives during the ten months the grass Is green, nn average of ti&OO iHtunds of cronm each week from the Lake Creek country. And tho rentier will remember that that Ih only a nar row strip of country up and down Little Butte crook, and the people In this Hutto Creek country are waking up to the necessity of Improving their hree.t ot cows and u.iln fertilisers, with the result that tho land Is pro ducing double tho amount of hay and other kinds of cow feed that la enab ling them to increase tho sUe of their herds. Mr. and Mrs. U. ft. MurMiind ot tho Medford Sheet Metal Works, and 1. A. l.tingnoher. San Francisco, represent ing n cream separator company, were here for dinner and so was Chris lleale of Hutte Falls. ' Mrs. P. K. Suiulo of Klk Creek came In on tho Kagle Point-Persist stage, took dinner and went out to Medford In the afternoon. There were also two strangers for dinner, J. C. Pendleton ci Tli Rock, was a business caller, he helm? a deputy assessor, was to nieel Mr. Herring, another deputy assessor here on busi ness connected with their business. A. K. HUdreth of Hutto Falls, spent Thursday night here and went on up home Friday morning. The Civic Improvement club of Kaglu Point will give a dinner and batanr at the opera house Friday, May 19.
