And yet the authorities have apparently received no assistance from this organization, in bringing to justice these un known citizens, armed and masked, who on three distinct neeasions, have violated every principle of good citizenship and turned the Con stitution of the United States into a scrap of paper. Why this apathy and inaction? Here is a situation, which to a majority of the people, seems perfectly fitted for Klan service, and the restoration of law and order in this community, by an organi zation publicly pledged to such a cause. Jl. The dairy division of the V. S. department of agriculture furnishes nil blauk records free, on condition that a complete yearly summary of all cow records he returned. From , these association records, of which there are more than "50 in the Cnited States, valuable and interesting facts a.re compiled. The members pay ,$.1 for each cow on test. Financial assistance is also given by the chamlspr of commerce of Medford and Ashland, who realize that improvement in dairy bract irea bene fits both the fariiH'rand his trading center. The tester employed by the associa tion makes a monthly visit to each herd. The milk from each cow is weighed, and a sample taken from noti iilLini. Tl,.. fifiill fr.tm e.-ieh ' -"""" " j" I cow is tested to determine Us biillcr-J fat content. From this the monthly i production Is imputed; The feed ofj each cow is wvlglip'if,and the cost ofj feeding is compared wilh the value ot the product sold, whether whole milk or bulterfat. Assistance is given, where request ed, in properly combining grains to furnish balanced rations, and in other, matters relating to dairy practice. Production Is Influenced by lilieral feeding, but It is nis i largely a result of inherited ability. Systematic records from each cow In tho herd are Invaluable to the dairy man, whether his product be butterfat or whole milk. The margin of profit of each cow is shown, often enabling the owner to secure the same profit from fewer cows, by getting rid of low producers. A cow whoso production is known can be soid at her true value. The owner can select his calves and thus his future herd from ' his best cows. J. Q.
