The subject was "Christian Science, the Science of Right Living." by Prof. Hermann S. Ilering. C. S. 1!. Member of the Hoard of Lectureship of The Mother Church, the Kirst Church of Chrst. Scientist, in Iloston, Mass. Prof. Hering said in part: "When a man seems to be 'down and out" he is as though he were in a deep, dark - hole. If we speak to him and tell him how beautiful it is above we may catch his ear, but un less we appeal to him in a way that reaches his human sense lie is likely to remain in a hopeless Hate of mind, not believing that he can ever get out. What that man needs is a lad der which will reach down to his grasp, that Is. something which he can get hold of and by means of which he can climb out. This s-iving power is the Christ, the divine Truth coming to the human consciousness through Christian Science, with which anyone can begin to work out his salvation, his deliverance from evil. "Til's lriman consc'ousness ;i"cord Ing to belief Includes a sene of mu terialitv and evil as well as of soir ituality and good. It includes a sense of both right and wrong, both truth and error. It conceives of mat ter, of discord, of death, and yet can liepln to perceive Sp'rit, harmony. Life. I is the consciousness of the every day man wherein he feels thai he may be liea'ed by the Christ. Truth; the consciousness wherein ref ormation and regone'-allon take place and to which Jesus appealed in his healing and teaching. Here it is that salvation is to lie worked out: here that good can be brought to bear upon evil to destroy it: here that Truth can meet error and correct it. It Is the consciousness which can be gin to know Cod. Thus the Christ awakens us from the Adam dream. "Concerning this consciousness, Mrs. k'ddy writes: '"S'n and disease lose their real ity in human consciousness and dis appear as naturally and as iiecessni ily as darkness gives place to light and sin to reformation. Now, as then, these mighty works are not supernat ural, but supremely natural. They are the sign of Immaniiel, of 'God witli its' a divine influence ever present In human consciousness.' (Science mid Health, page XI.) "Think of it! A divine influence always present within, which makes it possible to he. healed and saved, by having the (,'lir'at, Truth, come to consciousness and there, . develop spiritual understanding, through light knowing nnd right living. ; "Christian . Scientists ;, 1 recognize Mrs Kddy as the ' discovered and founder of Christian Science because of her preparedness and becuuse they liavo been able to demonstrate the truth of her teachings. Thin latter fact in a very important point, be cause any one can prove the. truth for himself. When a school hoy proves Iliat ten Ume3 ten is one hundred ho virtually proves that a thousand times a thousand is a million, although this latter (uantity may be beyond his mental grasp. So Christian Scientists in demonstrating simple fundamentals prove the truth of Mrs. Kdciy's entire revelation. In what an unfortunate Priscilla Dean in Conflict in North Woods Epic ' "Conflict," Priscilla Dean's first plc- Iture since the memorable Roputa Ition." will be seen at the Page theatre today. It rings true to its name from beginning to end, for it is brimful of excitement, suspense and the uncer tainty which go to make up a superior picture.
