APOLOGY SENT TO NOVEMBER MEET
SCENIC SOCIETY AT
TALENT TUESDAY
ON REALTY DEALS
A letter of apology lias jiiHt been
received by -Mayor C. E. Gates from
A. C. Barber, head of the State of
Oregon real estate department, rela
tive to hln having written a "call
down" to the mayor in regard to the
city selling vacant lots owned by it
to cx-Bervlce men, and In reBponsc to
the mayor's somewhat peppery reply.
In part the letter follows:
"We are very sorry indeed to have
troubled you for this explanation. As
explained In a letter to .Mr. John H.
C'arkln, Information was given tills
office that yoursolf and Mr. C'arkln
were negotiating real estate transac
tions for others. As our files did not
show that either of you gentlemen
were licensed as real estate brokers,
It was necessary for us to cull upon
you for an explanation as to your ac
tivities along this line.
"We are sorry that our Informant
did not explain to us the manner In
which your negotiations wero being
conducted. Had we been familiar
with tho situation wo would not have
writton either one of you. We take

' "Wo wish to commend you for the
spirit in which you are handling this
property for both tho city nnd the ex

place next Tuesday evening at Talent.

representatives will bo chosen, at the
I request of Ciovernor Olcott, to meet
at Salem or Portland before very long
for llie purpose of forming a statewide
association for the preservation of
Oregon's scenery,
Jackson county Is just a year ahead
of all other counties of the slate in
making an organized effort toward
conservation of her scenic resources
and tho constitution and by-laws of
tho local organization was used as a
model for the pmposod statewide as
sociation.
The former meetings of tho associa
tion have always boon held at a noon
day luncheon nnd the one at Talent
will be tho first to bu held In the even
ing. This is to permit business men
who are Interested to attend, a number
of which will bo present from Mod-ford.

guard and navy radio stations along
the Oregon coast today were contin
uing to watch for any trace of tho
San Francisco tug Sea Kagle and the
Schooner Kcola, following the find
ing yesterday and the day before of
wreckage from tho Sea ICagle which
had the Kcola in tow en routo for
Coos Bay when u severe storm swept
the coast early this week. The Port
land office of lialfour. (iuthrle and
company, owner of the Kcola, has re
ceived no word of the schooner, but
officials expressed the opinion that
the Kcola went out to sea to avoid
tho storm and may not be heard from
for several days. The office had no
Information on which to base suspi
cion that tho Kcola had been lost. A
message from Marshfield today said
no news had been received of either
schooner or tug, but that marine men
there believed the schooner was safe
and the tug was lost.

line plunging gave tho Navy another
first down at midfleld, where Doilil

scrimmage- Noyes fumbled, tho ball
going to the Army on her own 40-yard
line.
