Adv. last -GA, Same as Calumet is made under such exact ing conditions packed in such a scientific manner, that its leavening strength and purity never vary. It retains its original strength for months after leaving the factories. When you tip the can to get the last spoonful, you know your baking will turn out all right the last spoonful is the same as the first This uniform quality of otvg powder is cause for its big demand. Housewives know they can depend upon the results obtained that climatic conditions or temperature cannot de teriorate its positive leavening power. When you buy baking powder remember these facts that a uniform leavener means bakings that do not vary in quality that Calumet is uniform. A pound can of Calumet contains full 16 oz. Manufacture of steel from, iron oro by tlio "tliroet process" which vroulil involve the. use of atomized fuel oil, or powdered coal, was described before the American institute today by A. K. Hourcouml, n New York engineer, who has been conducting exhaustive tests fer some time, lie declared the "direct pro cess" had a "reasonable chance of in dustrial success" and that, "properly conducted, the work could be done at a price which would compare favor ably with the cost of manufacturing steel under methods generally follow ed heretofore." The process described by Mr. Hour cound differs from the blast furnace process in that the latter involves the use of reduction gases formed in the charge of coke in the furnace, while the Hourcound method contemplates the use of reducing gases projected against the mass of ore contained in a furnace of special design. Federal ex eptrts, it was said, have found the process theoretically sound. It was pointed out by the speaker that the "direct process" would open up Hssibilities for the development of a steel industry in regions where blast furnace operations are almost impossible because of the cost of sup plying coal to plants. California iron litres could be smelted in that stato by ' the use of fuel oil and the Pacific coast I could look forward to the building up of a local steel industry.
