BEDFORD SrSTU TRTT5UNT5. STTOFOTID, OTJEGOX, THURSDAY. NOVEMBER 10, 1021 VAQYi THREE FIND OIL WELL IN CELLAR OF IE HOME F. W. Draper of Rosalia. Wn., who is In Medford with a view to perma nently locating here, tells a strange oil story which whets the appetites of local oil men. He heard this tale and Investigated it while visiting in SKkane recently, and carries with him a small bottle of the oil for which he paid 25 cents. Mr. Draper is a far men and is not interested in oil ven tures. It seems that several years ago a family living iu a rented house in Spo kane one day discovered a small trick ling of water in the cellar of the house i a. I in mi nr mm u mu, eleven 'V-, '''''' - which was thought to be caused by a defective sewer. The city sewer de partment was notified and made re pairs which it was thought would end the leakage. But the water continued to come out of the ground in the cellar and the city officials condemned the house for residence purposes. Finally the owner of the house, after it had been vacant for some time, de cided to live in it himself and did so. One day his wife desiring a fire in tbe stove brought up some coal from the cellar which had been saturated by the supiwsed sewer fluid. The fire had only burned a short time when the stove blew up. While a number of men were Investigating into the cause (of the explosion one of them, who hap pened to be an oil man, picked up a piece of coal and smelling it at once exclaimed, "Petroleum!", His contention that the coal was sat urated with petroleum was ridiculed until an analysis of the fluid in the cellar was made, which developed that it was a very high grade of petroleum which had wonderful medicinal qual ities. The owner of the house scooped a small hole out where the fluid came from the ground', Mind vit soonilJled with eight galioiii &f (he II.
