H jinay have been the warm appreciation of the audience, and It may have been because it waa Kd Andrews' homo town, but something inspired the fine soloists and singers of the com pany to do their very best from the irat rise of the curtain. When Mr. Andrews first came on as the Sheriff of Nottingham he was greeted with an ovation of applause which lasted several minutes. The sterling .Med- ford actor, singer and comedian then proceeded to give a fine portrayal of the whimsical, crooked and likeable sheriff, being especially strong in the rnmedy. Adv. MOSCOW Boiled shirts made their; reappearance here at tho opening per formance of grand opera. There were seven of them and not one was the ! sort that one scrubs with a sponge, j This extremely bourgeois attire was an announcement that starch has ar- j rived in the Moscow markets with the changed economic policy. Tho entire audience in the great opera house heralded the advent of a new era In Russia. Seats were sold in the old-time way. It cost 84,000 rubles to have an excellent seat in the pit or first balcony and the seats were all full as well as in the galleries. The mammoth auditorium is just as bril liant In Its dull gold and red interior as it was In the days of the czar. The Initial opera was (ilinka's Muss- land and I.udmihla." It was brilliantly staged. There was a marked difference be tween the opera crowd this year and that of three years ago. In the open ing months of the Boviet regime, bol shevlsts of both sexes nearly all wore black leather coats, which they dram atized very heavily at the opera and In all public places. The absorption of a large bourgeois population and three years of experience in government have changed the dominant party. The members have softened, and become more conventional. The percentage of bobbed-haired, masculine looking women is smaller. Femininity is reasserting Itself. The old-time "itusslan courtesy Is reappear ing In all gatherings. Med army sol diers are now generally shaved and have their boots polished. The constant lecturing of the Im maculate Trotzky has nunk Into the army. He Is a great stickler for pro per care of clothing and equipment and the same word has been generally passed along in all government departments. II V FOUR SHOT IN I. C. W. Hevron. They ordered the engineer to proceed to a hridgo where tho train was stopped with tho passenger coaches on the brldgo. Ordering tho crew to hronlt the train tho engineer and fireman woro forced to pull tho mail cur up the tracks and about eight othor men appeared from their automobiles. On a threat of shooting tho engineer and fireman of tho train if the mail car was not opened, the robbers forced the mnil clerks to open the door, but when the engineer and fireman hail clambored inside tho door was slammed shut. Several charges of dynamlt and fir ing from revolvers and shotguns final ly forced the door in nnd a hand to hand battle ensued which only stopped nfter the robbers hail thrown two bombs Into the car and a firebrand which smoked out tho four men in the car.
