Oregon Gas and Electric company will
maintain an Ashland office for the
convenience of local gas users, the
agency having been taken over by the
Provost Brothers hardware, according
to a statement made this morning by
Thomas D. Pitch, vice president and
general manager of the company. Mr.
Pitch states that G. C. Jenkins, former
manager of the Ashland office, will be
transferred to the RoBeburg office as
manager, and the local gus supply will
be improved by the installation of a
$3000 compression tank. More than
$30,000 Is being spent to improve the
company's service, Mr. Pitch stated.

Reductions in freight on many im
portant articles moving between Pa
cific coast and Chicago, New York,
Birmingham, Pittsburg, St. Louis, Mis
souri river common points and other
eastern territories are to be made at
an early dale according to an an
nouncement made by J. H. Muchay,
general freight agent of tho Southern
Pacific Co., Wednesday. The complete
list of now rates and commodities af
fected are now being prepared and
will soon b ready for distribution.
The reductions ranee as high ae it
per cent on some of the articles, with
a general average reduction of about
20 per cent. The Southern Pacific
