President AVil son's former secretary spends most of his time in casting brick bats at Colonel Roosevelt and MeCoombs, two of Mr. Wilson's most active enemies. AVe don't question the truth of the secretaries' assertions. Me Coombs was probably an embittered and vindictive man, and prob ably T. AVhat has passed has passed, and it shows a small and paltry spirit to dig up trivial incidents, when the principals involved can't be called to explain them. Far better let the controversies rest, particu larly when they were given birth in the atmosphere of personal and partisan politics. Tiinmlly could do great good by giving the inside history of the Paris conference, from President Wilson's standpoint, which has never been given, he could contribute materially to literature if he would give intimate glimpses of President Wilson, the human being, but raking over the dead ashes of inconsecpiciital clashes, (here is nothing in thai, only trouble for himself and for his chief. Mason MEDFORD, OTJEfiOX,' MONDAY, OCTOBER 31, 1921 GO TO CHURCH I Medrord's first "Go to Church Sun day" was a great success In every way, all of the churches being crowd to capacity both morning and evening, and the sermons being of a high order throughout. Brief accounts of the ser vices from some of the cliurchcB fol low: P First Methodist "It has been a wonderful day!" This characterization of CSo it,o Church Sun day was on the lips of scores of people who were in the audiences which taxed the seating capacity of Klrst Methodist Episcopal church at both regular ser vices yesterday. The Sunday school and Kpworth League services "ran ! high" with interest and in attendance. llishop Wm. O. Ssepsrd delirered s masterful sermon at the evening ser vice on "The Church In the New Age." He showed that the church with its message of I lie gospel of love is the most powerful civilizing and cultural agency in the woi Id. At tile morning service the pastor preached on "The Church, the Servant of the Community,'" emphasizing the fact that the church can justify its existence only in Bcrvlce, He said that the church is a servant of the com munity in that it bolus before the peo ple the loftiest ideal, furnishes sanctu ary f ir tlie s nil, and gives a Christian clti.enshl;). The music at all the services was commented uisin as being of the high est onler. ' ! Characteristic of the day was the lacic of denominational emphasis. Christian Church The morning service at 11 a. m., was hugely attended, the auditorium being filled, many new faces were present, some for the first time in the Christian church. Though the pastor was sick and hardiy able to be present from la grippe and a severo cold, many were beard to say it was the best sermon SUNDAY PROVES GREA SUCCESS he liml ever preaelied In Medford and sllSReBtloll ana filie(i tile one lady went so fur ns to call tip tlie!, f tl prp8ilvicria'n , piiator after elitircli and tell Mm that if hcini; sick caused him to preach Htieh sermons, she hoped he would be sick every Sunday.'1' The theme for discussion ns, "Th4 Most Neglected Prlvllene of tho Christian Church." Tho evening service was largely at tended, tho auditorium being well filled. The music by tho male quartet was well tnkon and tho solo by Mr. Scougal was a gem. As a whole the First Christian church believes the Go to Church Sun nily wan a decided success from many angles and believes the results will be lasting, and wishes to thank th Mail 'tribune for Its hfsirty support, timly edltorisl lid encouraeement in the project. . i First Baptist Church I.nrgo audiences were present at until services at tho First Hantlst church. There was n pleasing variety, nnd the quality or work elicited many favorable com ments on the part of tho hundreds present. I!ev. F. H. Loach gave two forceful messages on "The Value of Church Going." Among other things tho speak er said, the present decline in church attendance is duo to tho larger place given today to pleasures; to the rush In the business life: to tlie misunder standing of the real program of the churches: and to Indifference and carelessness on tho part of the people, rather Hum to any hostility to tlie church Itself. Noli church going Is re sulting ill making the people irrelig ious, in lowering the morals of the na tion, and Is a blow at our Institutions. Church attendance is a duty every per son owes to himself, to his country, to tho community and to God. It is a cowardly act to want the church for the sake of the community, the wife and tho children nnd in case of sick ness nnd death, and not support its services. Tho renewal of the church going habit Is one of the greatest needs of the hour. Religion will soon vanish with the absence of church at tendance, said the spenker.
